i have a young horse who has a reputation for spooking at nothing and flailing his legs in all directions. Im just about to start riding him and introducing new things. i have never had the need for any kind of boots with any previous horse and to be honest i know little about them. i was wondering though if it would be advisable to put some sort of boots on him just to prevent injury and then thwarting his training progress. just wondered what other people would do?

I always boot in front, just brushing boots (she's not shod), then boot behind as well if I think she's likely to have a hooley on the lunge.

I always tend to us brushing boots in front for schooling - then all round for hacking and lunging...they are more likely to either have a hooley or perhaps spook so better to prevent I think! When he was syarted we booted all round, just as he was unbalanced and close behind.
