should i brave a Ridden Cob class?

I agree he's a great little cob and that he will do well in the right class.

Its not about the £6 entry fee, its demoralising to always come at the bottom of the line. If you put all that effort into getting ready and entering, you want to have a chance.

How much nicer to come on here with a Rosette and raving about how well you did than asking why you always come last.

The OP asked if he would be OK in ridden cob and all I said was, no he would be better in another class.

I'm going to try a cob class with my boy for the first time, and I hogged him and took his feathers off, well...the scratty feathers he has...

If I am going to try something, then I'll try to do it right as near as dammit the first time. It was suggested I hog him so I did, I've taken advice on suitable tack and clothing, haven't got a fancy show saddle so what I have will have to suffice.

...and no, I'm not a snob, pot-hunter, spoilt brat or anything else, I've done my homework and will try to get it right first time as best I can, otherwise what is the point in trying?

OP, whatever class you go in, have some fun, but keep in mind you are out to do your best as well. :D

:o good points there i guess theres no point going if you're not trying! I've decided to try 14h and under whp- he can jump really well, he looks like a hunting pony and has a strong steady canter plus it means we wont be competing against adults!! :D

Have read the thread, why dont you tell us what classes there are and people could help you decide what would be best for you.

Just for the record if its a cob/cobtype class i think you will be fine ive seen "cobs" a lot less cob type than yours in local showing classes

Ok...

The classes i could enter are...

Best rider over 13 years - :( scary and this would be
our first showing class ever...

Ridden M&M - not sure if Merlin looks like M&M material...

Marriages Riding club pony 14.2 and under- you have to jump 3 fences which he could do easy then do an individual show cept its a county qualifier:eek:

Ridden Cob - you know all about this ;)

Small Working Hunter (13hh- 14hh) - sounds good- Merlin is a hunter type and his canter is a good hunters pace...

Ridden coloureds- dont know last year they were all proper tb types on the bridle flicking their toes out... :(

I would hog him and do the cob class and the coloured.

I do agree that it is about being correct and think with how much mane he has and the fact that you have taken feathers off already I'd just finish the job!

I was looking at him today on the side with no mane and he would look smart hogged- thing is he has a phobia of clippers and having to redo it every few weeks would be an effort
