Hi,
Went down to the stables earlier, and found Bella literally covered in fly bites, there was hardly a break in them,. she was quite 'swollen' if you get me around them and they were all over her. She was wearing two different makes of fly spray, and neither seem to work * We tried Power Phaser and i can't remember the other one's make, but it was a white bottle with green writing on it*.
Should I get her a fly rug? And does anyone have any recommendations? Can't be really expensive though. She is an ID x Cob, so quite chunky, so she has to have a 6ft 3 to cover her largeness haha.
Any help would be appreciated :)
Nell :)

Coopers fly repellent or if you want a fly rug Derby House have got a good sale on right now. Fly rugs are about £24 in the sale I think.

I have got fly rugs on both of my coloured horses as they get bitten on the white parts of their body ( I think the pink skin must be more sensitive). I was worried about the 3 yr old wearing one, but he seems happy enough, doesnt seem overly warm and hasnt got any more bites.....

I think I would get yours a rug..... :).....any purchasing opportunity afterall!!

:) thanks, will look on Derby House now.
She's not worn a rug out before, in her time we know of in England *she came over from ireland, and lived out at the dealers with no rug on for the 2 months she was there* so hopefully she doesn't rip it to shreds haha. Knowing Bella she will though haha :D

Yes Derby house have v good deal on at the moment. The silverstream looks similar to the DH fly rug I am using and with which I'm very happy and it's only £22.50 plus p&p. For the bad reaction to the bites, try calendula drops diluted in cold water if you can get hold of it (the calendula not the water! lol)

I would - it made a massive difference to my pony as he literally rubbed his skin off last year due to fly bites!

My pony is welsh x with big shoulders so I have to get a size bigger than normal. I got an amigo one this year which is fab - think it was about £35.

The calendula (tincture)? I get it from my vet who is into natural medicine whenever possible. Maybe from a Health shop or homeopathic chemist, I'm not sure. Sorry
