Every thing is telling me no!
I have been offered a horse who has impecable endurance bloodlines, is around 6 years old, 15.2 hh and chestnut mare. Shes been out of work since the summer. She has slight (very slight) djd in her fetlock but is sound in light work - in fact she would probably stay sound with more than that, she is not on any medication for it either. The thing is if I take this mare on it would only be to bring back into work and sell on.
Would she be saleable - and how much for - as I could probably only safely sell her as a hack or broodmare and how much should I offer for her as I dont want to offend the owner. Its a long story - its not a purchase that I would be very happy with BUT it would be to help horse and human out of a sticky patch . Please help

Agree it does rely on what you buy her for, but I probably would If you have the time to do it. If nothing else the more horses you handle the more you learn so the better horseman/woman you become

If you were buying her to keep - maybe. But buying her to sell - I wouldn't. You are umming and aahhing about her and you know her. You aren't going to make any money on her. You could always offer to take her to sell.

Don't buy a horse like this to sell on. Its not fair. And there really isn't any money to be made. I'm sure she will find a lovely home, where she is suitable and she will be loved and kept.

Forget_Me_Not, its just that this equine aquantance (sp?) is continually asking me to take her on. I dont like to refuse to help people and cant tend to say no! I would never expect to make money from this horse - its just that I can afford to loose money thats all. Either way someone needs to get her back into work and I dont think the owner will - either that or sell her as a brood mare - but as a brood mare the owner wouldnt be getting the money that she is looking to get

If you don't like the horse dont buy it. Why don't you tell the lady that you will ride it for her if she keeps and pays for it at your place.
