hi,I just need to get this off my chest. im nearly a complete novice. Ive been riding for just over 6 months and have had a couple of lessons. The thing is that I hack out with my husband who is horsy and has taught me everything I know about horses both on the ground and in the saddle. But I seem to have hit a plato in my learning which is causing problems between us. I dont want to give up but I dont know where to go from here. please help.
I love life in the saddle especally riding out with my hubby so want to keep moving forward.

Good advice given :)

Being taught to ride by family can be likened to hubby giving his wife driving lessons :D Go out and find yourself a private instructor and or if you can join a riding club x

In your position I'd find a RS where you can learn to ride different horses, completely away from your husband's watchful eye.
And no, of course you shouldn't give doing something you love. We all have setbacks from time to time, no matter how long we've been riding.

Would you take driving lessons from Hubby same thing with riding. Go for group or private lesson. My hubby tried to teach me to drive many years ago, apart from wanting to beat his head in, stopping the car and walking home miles, I finally went for proper lessons and when it came for him to learn how to ride a horse, he had proffesinal lessons and we've been happily married for 41 years, mind you he still cann't tack up a horse.:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

thanks for your replies. Im going to book some lessons and start at basics so if I have any bad habits I can get rid of them. Im also going to ride out with someone else from the yard.
My horse is part of my life now and hes going to stay there.:)

Good for you :)

I tried to teach my OH and it was awful. Ended up having the a slanging match. I can count on one hand the number of times we've had an argument as well so it's a big deal for us!

He will be getting lessons when he has the time to learn as it was the worse idea I had trying to teach him.

Keep us posted on how you get on.
