So I’ve had Tali nearly a year. I was hoping to have done much more with her than I have but we’ve had lots of fun all the same.
A friend of mine has suggested I take her to a winter woolies show in a couple of weeks time. She’s offering to take us as she lives along the road. She is taking her old chilled mare who would hopefully be a good influence for Tali. She’s good but can be active, pawing for attention and throwing her head up etc.
There is in hand classes I could take her in so no pressure to ride and overwhelm her completely. (Although if she’s good and enjoying the day out theres a class we could walk and trot in.)

so do you think a show day is too big a step for a first outing. She’d have a companion she’s fond of although not spent a whole lot of time together. The shows about 12 miles away so not too long but she’s not travelled since she’s arrived. It would be at in indoor school but I don’t know if she’s ever been in one. I don’t care about winning anything (fortunately as she’s a bit overweight atm and tbh I’m not doing a full bath at this time of year with a winter coat) but I do want to get her out and about and get myself in the riding club scene.

so what do you think? It won’t be a big show, quite a quiet one really. Will I be asking too much of her?

If she hasn't travelled for a year I would try to get one outing in before. Just so that you don't risk spoiling your friend's day if there are any problems. If you could plan an arena hire trip or even a trip somewhere for a hack you are likely to be in a more relaxed frame of mind than if you are going to her first show.

I did wonder this too. I will see what if I can sort a small outing before hand.

thanks for the thumbs up guys. I wasn’t sure but quite excited now.
