I moved my horse to a larger yard near my old yard on Tuesday, gave him a few days off and schooled him last night, he was very good and I want to hack him out tonight. A the new yard is so near my last one the hacking route will be very similar and will involve going past my old yard, where he is likely to nap and want to go back to the old yard.
I have a few options:
1. Ride him out and change the route slightly to avoid the old place, but this will make the hack mostly road work and quite a bit shorter
2. Take him on the normal route and ride firmly past the old yard so he knows that isn't 'home' anymore and reward him profusely when he goes past it (I'm worried about him broncing and galloping down to the old yard though, that is what he does when he's really stroppy)
3. Schooling again, and being worried tomorrow when I want to hack him out again
I'm probably being really stupid but I don't want to fall off, we do have arguments sometimes and I have a feeling this will cause another one, and he can get dangerous. Hacking out with someone else isn't really an option yet as I don't know that many people at the yard.
Thanks so much for reading and I'd love some advice because I'm getting nervous already!
