I went to the yard this afternoon to lunge my boy. The school was in use so I went to a friends to walk our dogs together.

Got back from the walk to find a text saying 'can we borrow your boy?' I responded with no, but it was too late, they'd already taken him. They took him to accompany a horse that hadn't been well yesterday and had been put on bute by the vet. They said they wanted company to make sure the other horse was ok.

I went back to yard, made up feeds etc and when they returned I let my feeling known and just walked away and drove home.

Am I right to be fuming??

To make matters worse I had only this afternoon oiled my saddle and they had to piece together a bridle because I had parts of mine in a bag soaking up oil!

:mad::mad:

I think are you allowed to be a bit miffed. I would be. As for walking out.... well we all do things that sometimes we think we shouldn;t have, but at the time if it felt right then hey..
Make sure you tell those at the yard that did this why you are so annoyed and make sure in future etc that a text is not enough. A full phone call etc, i guess you may not have been so angry if they had actually made proper contact and asked nicely??
Hope you sort it out - bad feelings only drag on :-)

They took your horse out on a ride without your consent?

I would be pretty peeved if I was in your situation. As long as you were adult and fair in 'letting your feelings be known' I would say you did the right thing.

Even if you're in the habit of letting these people hack your horse on occasions, I still think they should have waited for your reply to their text before simply assuming it was okay. That's the inappropriate part IMO. Asking, but not waiting for a reply before just helping themselves to someone else's horse. 'Over familiarity' comes to mind and you were well within your rights to let your feeling be known. Tell them next time you expect them to wait for your reply before taking your horse out. Surely that's reasonable?

I know you're probably feeling a bit embarrassed by leaving like you did today. But TBH, they are the ones who should be feeling embarrassed. I am sure they meant no harm at the time, but it was a liberty on their part. Hopefully they apologise to you tomorrow if you see them.
