Why don't you just shorten it? I don't like hogging, I'm afraid I think it looks ugly :-(

Is it being made thin by a neck rug? If so, you could leave it of and she would find it a little bit easier to lose weight.

I agree. I don't like hogged horses in general. However I don't think this horse suits a long mane, I would just pull it shorter.

Whilst she hasn't got as much bone as what I would normally like to see on a hogged horse, she isn't exactly light and I actually think she would quite suit it! And she has a very pretty head

NellRosk, your grey is stunning! Can those saying that hogged horses are ugly honestly disagree that your horse looks extremely handsome and smart? (although I have to admit SOME hogged horses are ugly) *runs*

Hogging doesn't make a horse more ugly or more beautiful as you've only removed the mane, not altered it's conformation. I do however find hogging unbecoming as I don't like it aesthetically and yes, that includes NR's horse who is undoubtedly beautiful (and very clean) but would IMO look even nicer with a mane.

Thanks everyone *blushes*!! I can honestly say when I got him he looked distinctly average, his mane was awful and really frizzy and sparse and one day I just had a moment of madness and clipped everything off and he was transformed!

He is this colour 0.01% of the time  and I can honestly say it improved him!

I would definitely hog and trim, always very smart and I think this little horse could carry it off. Can't imagine my cob any other way, pics are in my profile.

Thanks for the opinions all, I wasn't up to clip her today as it was quite windy and I'd no where to shelter from the wind so I couldn't keep the fuzz in one heap if I tried. She's not rugged at all at the moment, but she does have a light weight on stand by for after being clipped if needed but she's quite a hardy little mare, her last owner (I've only had her 9 months now :D ) didn't rug her unless it was really bad out so she'll probably have her coat on mid November I'm guessing but it's fine if she needs it sooner.

Rosk looks lovely btw! He looks like he has about (maybe bit less) the same as her when she has her legs de-fluffed.

I'm going to pull her mane when I'm up tomorrow (weather dependent) and take some pics, then get some opinions and leave it for a bit to see how I like it. Her mane grows out quite fast anyway so if I do decide to hog her it won't take forever to grow back.

If we're lucky we might get out to do some in hand showing at the farm up the road. I'm just concentrating on her flatwork over the winter so apart from in hand (possibly ridden) showing and dressage schooling days that's all we'll do for a little while so nothing to big.

can you take some pics of her 'non' mane side too ;). My welshie looked quite smart hogged (came like that) then he had it long which in hindsight didn't really suit, then I pulled it, then I pulled it a bit shorter ;)
