You might have read about our "issues" before, but I decided to give my 6yo welsh cob a break from jumping and shows at the end of September as our summer hadn't gone to plan because I'd been feeding her too little so she got very nappy and refusing. Even when we fed her more, her "sparkle" when we took her SJ wasn't back, so we did one diddy show (she won both her classes) and gave her a break.
I jumped her for the first time again yesterday and she was VERY enthusiastic, a little too enthusiastic but after lots of gridwork and trotting into fences she was sensible again -laughs-. Seems she'll need a fair bit of work on her jumping before we go SJ again, but do you think it'd be okay to do dressage this coming sunday?
I was planning on going hunting, but after todays weather - and the forecast for the week ahead isn't much better - I think I'll probably not go, I'd rather she doesn't pull a tendon plus she's not fond of jumping on wet grass (plus she can be a bit silly when she gets excited so if its slippery that won't be fun.)
Do you think 2 months break is long enough? She hasn't done a great deal of dressage, and recently her flatwork has come on in leaps and bounds, do you think it'd be okay?
