I am new to the site and have a 17 hand swedish warmblood who is 13 and has been retired due to a leg injury which means if he is competed and worked a lot he is not sound, however he is sound to hack out every day with a hoof boot and school every day.
i want to buy another horse to compete on but cant afford the time or money to keep two horses as i wokr full time. i have tried to loan him recently and he is coming back as he had a buck and squeel on the stubble ands it scared the girl who had him (he is not a novice ride, not leary but you would not put a novice on him). he is lovely and quiet apart from this.
Am i right in trying to loan him as a companion or light hack again (if i cn get anyone to have him) or should i just keep him and wait until he passes away before i get something else to compete?
are there people who would want him?

I would try again, or what about a sharer? Then he wouldnt get overworked and you could keep an eye on him?

Or the companion thing could work well

Hello and welcome

I'm sure the right sharer or loan home is out there for him, just be sure to make lots of checks of any potential loan home before you let him go.

There's an amazing number of competent riders out there who don't want to compete and are real happy hackers, as I found when I was in the same situation last year. I'd try again if I were you.......

I'd definitely try again and be totally honest with any potential loaners. I decided to put my mare out on loan as a very light hack and I have been overwhelmed with the amount of interest, so there are lots of people out there looking just to hack and not compete.

thanks for your advice was a i did ask her if she wanted to share but said No. think i will try and put some adverts up in local tack shops. i think he just got a bit excited as he showjumped and cross country to intermediate level and dreesage etc. all homes will be vetted as he is my baby!!! just hard to let him go but i want to get something else to compete on and cant keep him and give him the attention he deserves with working.

feeling a mean mummy..
