Should I move yards? Can't decide

Current yard is lovely - small, everyone really friendly, however its part/full livery only.
My other horse (light hack only) is on cheap grass livery 30mins away.

However majority of current yard are into dressage and i'm more into hacking and jumping. Really good friend who I go jumping/hacking with is putting her horse out on loan and has taken up a ride a different yard miles away.
The horse I have on loan doesn't do hacking alone & all the dressage girls don't hack.

I don't have my own car+trailer (also need to pass trailer test) so i rely on going to shows/hunter trails with the friend mentioned above. Really want to talk to her about this but can't as she is on holiday.

New yard - grass livery for the 2 horses would be cheaper than the part livery for 1. Has gorgeous hacking without needing to get a road if you don't want to (and the other liveries assured me they hack out!) Floodlit school, seperate with jumps in (fab!)

Its next door to showground where pony club runs shows in summer / hunter trails in (I need to investigate this a bit rather than taking yards word for it!)

However its a bit further from my house (probably 25min drive - although on the way to/from work) and i think i'd still have the same problem re: transport.
(gonna have to save up and get my own gas-guzzling-trailer-pulling-vehicle & trailer)

So am I totally insane thinking about moving to grass-livery just ahead of winter??
 
depends how your horse would cope with being out all winter. i don't think i would move as with all the rain we are having i know i've been using my stable loads
 
I think madness is having horses at different yards going into the winter. -Get them to the same place.

As for winter turnout, it's all to do with the type of soil (ground) that the fields are on. A sandy soil doesn't get sticky and boggy, clay is awful (but I have to put up with it), straightworward soil is a mix between the two. Do some research first otherwise 2 horses on DIY grass in a clay area would send me banana's.
 
Rusty - the horse on loan lived out 24/7 with his owner last winter and to be honest he isn't actually very good 'in'. He is out at nights at the mo with one mare and in for about 6 hours during the day whilst the other mares are out.

Sam - my horse - is currently out 24/7 and non sure how he is gonna cope with winter but as he is only capable on light hacking he isn't gonna be clipped etc and has some big beefy rugs ...

Neither horse are the "at the gate wanting to come" types
 
Write a list of all the pros and cons of each idea you have, I find this often helps. Take your time and dont rush into a decision too quickly.
 
I am in LB as well !

Markyate is a long old haul from LB everyday IMO, but i guess if you are travelling to Winslow every day its not that bad in terms of distance.

At least we have sandy soil.
 
Well I work in Hatfield so drive past Markyate everyday - its only the weekends I would notice the difference.

I don't go out to Winslow all that much to be honest (bad horse owner) - Sam is kinda of a companion to their horse whilst they get some stables built / get liveries in and whilst he has 6 months recovery from injury - they feed him & check him daily for me
 
as suggested i would get both of your horses at the same place, this new other place sounds good and i think i would be inclined to move them to that yard together as you said, two at that place is the same as one on part livery, and get a vehicle, that would be my choice, good luck

i'd want a field shelter if they're living out, and non-clay soil as said above, but i'd definitely go for that if it was up to me. so much easier to have them both at the same yard, with like-minded people would be a huge bonus. best of luck!
