im in a bit of a dilema and just thought id ask you lot for your opinion!!! long sorry!
i currently do a 40 mile round trip to see my horses everyday takes about 40mins to get to yard...this is because when my daughter was born i moved horses closer to my mums house so she could help as i struggled with horse and child care as u can imagine!
well now nearly 5 yrs on and im still at the same yard but now my daughter is in full time school, so do i bite the bullet and move or stay put?
my current yard is basic but my horses are very happy there and its cheap and cheerful i have made loads of good friends that i will miss loads if i move, i have found a new yard 5 mins from my house that has better facilites but is a bit pricer seems friendly but i dont know anyone in the area
i know i should move but am really nervous to start at a new yard and ill miss my friends but its costing me a fortune in petrol and with the winter comin i know it ll be easier if the horses are closer, so should i stay or should i go???? i think im just worried that if i move ill regret it i guess!
your thoughts would be appreciated .......?

The extra price in the livery yard probably equals what your paying in petrol at the current one. And like you said, it will be easier if they're nearer not only in winter but on all counts
 
I would move too. Its always hard to move but making friends always happens, I presume you could move back if you didn't like it. I would be honest with current YO saying it is only the distance that is causing the move and you hope if it doesn't work out you can come back if there is still room of course
 
thanks for the comments i get on well with my yard owner and she knows my reasons for moving but theres a waiting list to get onto the yard and my stable is the best one there so will be snapped up straight away!
 
Could you afford to pay for the livery space you have now for a month whilst you move to the new place and try it out? If I was happy with a livery yard but was looking for somewhere even better this is what I would do if I could afford it; then you have some sort of safety net.
 
I think you should do it hun. 40 miles is a LONG way! I'm sure you'd make loads of new friends at the new place and it would mean way less stress.

If you could afford it you could maybe pay a retainer on the old stable in case you don't like the new place? The money you save in petrol might cover it!!
 
I would definitely move. You will make new friends, and there's no reason you can't stay friends with the people at the old yard - girly nights etc.

When I was looking to move yards back in January, I discounted one because it was 7 miles away!!! lol
 
i've moved to a new area and didnt know anyone i came from hampshire was at a lovely yard but when i lost my boy i moved my mare to a yard which is 5mins from home and everyone has been so lovely and friendly it is a huge thing to do but it'll help on fuel side's of things plus if you need to get to horse quickly then your only round the corner!

Go for it, sure you'll meet new friends and your horse will settle so long as your around
 
I had to move mine at the beginning of the year and to say i was hesitent was an understatement as i had never moved her before and was worried about everything. I have now been on my new yard since february and i absolutely love it and cant believe i didnt move sooner! i have made so many friends and me and my horse are so much happier. Good Luck, i know its a hard decision to make, but 40 minutes there and back in winter is no fun x
