Should I oil a new Stubben bridle before use?

I brought a new bridle about 5 years ago and have never used it on my chap and thought that its now about time it came out for an airing!... so should I give it a good brush with leather dressing/oil or just a quick flick with some saddle soap/balm before I use it (I think I have the Stubben liquid soap somewhere). Thanks.
