Should I phone?

As you may have read, M is in horsepital for a bone scan. When we dropped him off last night, they told us two things:
1. We would be kept updated regularly
2 Specialist in charge of him was off today so although he's having the scan today we won't have results until tomorrow.

Now, I'm not expecting them to phone with any info relating to the scan today, but I was expecting them to give me a ring to let me know the scan's been done, he's come round from the sedation ok and he's settled etc. but they haven't yet.

Part of me thinks I should be letting them get on with their job but the other part of me is on pins. Does anybody know what sort of time most places do routine update phonecalls? Should I phone them or am I being too needy?

Possibly because of point 2 they think that you won't expect a call until tomorrow. I think it's reasonable for you to phone them today to ask after him.

Its reasonable for you to phone them now and ask how he is doing. I would be questioning why they took him in today knowing not much was going to be done due to staff annual leave because they will be charging you for the privilege of two days?

He has to be in until Wednesday anyway as he's radioactive for that long, so having the scan today and having the specialist look at it tomorrow won't hold anything up. They can't treat him until Wednesday for the same reason so he could be in even longer if he needs to have anything done. I just phoned and he was still having the scan as they had an emergency this morning so they didn't start him until this afternoon. They'll phone me as soon as he's out.

Give them a bit longer- they have a job to do. Assume no news is good news and as you haven't heard -its been less than 24 hours- I would think theres nothing to report and everythings fine.

They've just phoned. He's out and fine. He's been a gentleman all day, vet is smitten. Specialist won't see the scans until tomorrow but 'his' vet can't see anything obvious on there. Hope someone more senior will spot something!

Good news, fingers crossed for you x
