Should I ring the vet?

Archie went lame about two weeks ago, so I gave him a week off work and started to bring him back over the last week.
He came sound again after about 4 days off and Ive been riding him since. We moved yards Saturday just gone and he came in lame from the field on Sunday.
Theres no swelling, heat, cuts or anything. So I thinking he may need a scan. I turned him out this morning and he didnt look too bad, so should I ring the vet and not?
If Im gonna ring the vet, I need to ring him thismorning, coz I cant get hold of him in the evenings.
Im just conerned that theres something underlying that will keep occuring and as Arch is my jumping horse I need his legs to be tip top!
Any advise greatly appreciated.

I'd give him a call just to be on the safe side. There could be something underlying.
And as you say, you need him to be tip-top for jumping, it's not worth the risk. Put your mind at ease if nothing else

Is it easier (and cheaper) to get the farrier, sounds to me like it could be a corn?? I would see who can come out first, if there is no heat or swelling in the leg, the vet will look in his foot and probably tell you to get the farrier to dig a corn out!
 
I would for piece of mind but my horse did this, only slightly lame, thought was an abscess. farrier came and replaced shoe, couldn't find a thing and no heat. Eventually decided to get the vet and I'm thinking cos of his age (17) that maybe's he's got something more sinister wrong with his foot/leg. Well, vet came out and horse wasd only bloody sound then!

He thought he may have had a sore foot - maybe nail bind and when the farrier had replaced the shoe he'd taken the pressure off! Bloody horse- that was £60 for the vet to come for a 'chat'! Mine has done this a bit over the past year due to abscesses and one went on for about 5 weeks, he'd be just about sound, no heat nothing then he'd be lame. It was very frustrating but the abscess was found eventually! I always imagine it's going to be something alot worse and is far (touch wood) it's not been, i think my horse just likes the vet!
 
Have you no idea at all what it could be? If no heat or swelling visible, then maybe it's in the foot...a corn or abscess? Or perhaps higher up - a pulled shoulder muscle or pectoral muscle?
Sometimes, though, you can get significant tendon damage without much swelling/lameness so if you're worried, get the vet.

Hey you!!

Personally i would get the vet, especially if he has already had time off and is still not right. My old pony had something very simialr, the vet suspected she'd either pulled something in the field or done a tendon

As it was she had three weeks box rest and walking in hand and she came sound - but im sure this was because we caught the injury early. It might be nothing but personally i'd get it checked just in case.

i would get the vet to look because if there is no swelling or heat in leg it might be a shoulder injury or something
 
Well with no heat or swelling, and it being a front lameness, this usualy points to a foot problem. It could be an absess, and will probably be the first thing the vet will hunt for.
I think I would call the vet out today otherwise you are just going to keep mulling things over in your head and start thinking horible thoughts as to what can be wrong.

Anywho, vet gave Archie a really good look and struggled to find any pain. After flection tests and lunging he took Archies shoe off and gave it a good prod and theres a sore spot near his heal down the side of his frog. Looks like his shoe was pinching him and making him sore. Farrier is coming out tonight, so Ill be having a few words with him!
