Hi!
I'm new to this page hoping for some advice. I have a Welsh section D vetran mare she is 16 this year and I've started to show her but each time I've shown her every judge has asked "what is she crossed with?" granted she hasn't got alot of bone but it's more because she has a slightly dished face.
We then seem to get marked down for her looking like a part bred.
I'm aware welshes and alot of other breeds had Arabs bred into th them many years ago to help with breeding but my question is should we show as a part bred in vetran classes if that's what judges seem to think she is?

Thanks in advance.

I should add as far as I can tell she is a pure bred welsh D but her dam hasn't got a posh registered name so I'm starting to think there is more Arab in there than I once thought.

Is she registered?

Showing in veteran classes you turnout to type, so if she is Welsh D then as a Welsh D, if not she would have to be plaited - but as a veteran class you shouldn't necessarily be marked down for her not looking like a show-type welsh, especially at a relatively local level.

Thanks very much for your reply! She's just finer set than most welsh D's had many judges compliment her and say they're plait and pull her but technically it's incorrect if she's not a part bred? :)

Does she have a green WPCS passport? If she's not typey enough, even is she is registered, there's nothing to stop you showing her plaited and pulled.

Thankyou minesadouble that was my question! She is registered with a green wpcs passport but she isn't true to type being really fine set :) Thankyou it's just the trimming of legs I'm scared to do! Would you still show as native type ie brown plaited browband, brown numnah etc, or a colourful bling browband? Any help would be fantastic!

For veterans if she's not true to type native and you want to go the timer route decide if she's more a SHP or SP re. Browband.

The photos work. :)

I like her lots. We have a lot of Welshies near me that have dishier heads, but she is, as you say, lighter boned than the norm. I think that she would look super trimmed and plaited, but If you want to keep her natural, then do so.

How big is she?

She looks like a D, abit light of bone but not too bad, and her face isnt that dished for a D, I bet my D is more dished than that. If i was you I would leave her natural, Although she could may well look okay plaited up. If your only going to do local level I would just keep her natural in the veteran classes  - less hard work than plaiting up 

Thanks everyone I'm just sick of people stopping me asking what she's crossed with :( I love her to pieces we just want to get out more this year being eligible for vetran classes is a bonus she can still knock out a mean double clear round too so plenty life left in the old girl yet! :) xx

She looks like a D to me too, ditto what Rara said I think it might depend as much how she moves, and your personal hairiness preferences!

Hmmm....having looked at the pics it's hard to say what I would do! Are you just showing in hand or under saddle as well?
If she has a lot of knee action I would say leave as she is, however, from the pics she doesn't look to have much knee action at all, if this is the case then you could go down the plaited but route but once it's done you're stuck with it for a good while!
If she was mine and not knee-y I would probably give it a go.

Hmmmmm under saddle she has a massive trot and very knee-y in hand she just wants to fall asleep! Haha so in a no win situation there haha xx
