hi guys
,looking for a bit of advice ,i currently have two horses on diy livery, the yard in question isnt to bad for surroundings, off road hacking is great, and a handful of the people there are really nice and i get along with them great especially the lady next to me ,we help each other which is great,
the downside is our stables arent great mine keep leaking in everywhere and the floors are uneven ,i buy shavings for my horses and there always soaked thru cuz of the water running into my stables ,infact its basically a converted cow shed, thers no winter turn out and the haylage isnt great, one of my horses keeps losing weight and hes fed hard feed all year ,
Im not snobby at all but do i stay here here or move my horses to somewhere better, ive found a nice small livery and the stables are fab,and theres hacking and arena, its a bit further away but the same price as i pay now,i just dont know if i should make the move,im worried about meeting new people and not having anyone to ride with,Does a horse even know if there in a cow shed or a nice lovely stable ? what do i do ?

It's not so much about whether the horse knows if it's in a cow shed or not - the answer would be no. But at the end of the day, you are wasting money on bedding and paying for an inadequate facility.

If it was me, hard though it would be to leave friends, I would be looking at moving the other yard, PROVIDED I had exhausted the issue with the YO and tried to get them to rectify things.

I have had issues on our yard and I just hound and hound the YO to change things, and he eventually does. :D

Welfare of the horse always comes first so if the other place has better facilities I'd change. The other option is to fix up what you have if your allowed to make improvements?

Never easy going somewhere new but you'll make new friends.

heyy thanks for advice, we have improved our stables to the best we could ,put up our own lighting as there wasnt any,and we have put matting in but the floors are so uneven it dont make to much difference,i think in my mind id like to stay but then i want better for my horses and they should come first, just hard to think i have to be that new person all over again !

It sounds as though you have done what you can, in that case I would be looking for somewhere with better facilities.

Would your friend go with you?
