Thank you again for all your replies; I do find he forum a really helpful space to get different perspectives. On a another slightly different point can anyone recommend a cream that support hair regrowth. She came out in hives last week; these are going down on their own accord and she is fine in herself. However the hair rubbed off a couple and she now has three very small bald patches near her elbow (1-2 cm across). The skin isn't broken and they haven't increased in size and she isn't remotely bothered by you touching them The girth isn't interfering with these; we have added a girth sleeve for additional protection just to make sure the girth isn't irritating anything. I asked at the tack shop yesterday and was told there was a very good product in a black bottle but they couldn't recall the name.

After an injury resulting in damage to skin/hair. Vet recommended use of Aloe Vera gel. However would patch test first as I know humans allergic to it - so assume horses could be

Better the devil you know - I'd stay. You are happy and your horse is happy. Changing yards always has some hidden surprises even on really good yards.

It's handy to have an Aloe vera plant on hand rather than using gel out of a tube.

From the plant you get 100% pure product (obviously) and you can snip off a piece whenever you want to and use it wherever you want: on your horse or yourself or some family member. I don't know why anyone would buy the gel. The plant can live outside in nice weather in a protected spot. Can't cope with frost of course.

Thank you much for all your comments. I have decided we will stay put for now, not ruling the other yard out in the future but I want to build our relationship with our new horse first and have help on hand from people I know and trust. With regards to hacking the roads around the yard aren't horrendous and the new horse is ok in traffic. I just had a couple of bad experiences with our last horse which has knocked my confidence about hacking. I need to work on as where ever we are based I don't only want to feel I can ride off road. I am planning to get a back protector and will add a neck strap or balance strap in to give me a bit more security if I feel I need it

It's great to hear you're getting to know Lola and she's still doing well. I think you've made the right decision. Can you get a friend at the yard to accompany you out hacking or pay one of the instructors to go with you the first few times to help your confidence and Lola's?
