Carerra is now about 11 weeks in foal. I had been desperate to get back on her but I'm wondering if it's really worth it. She has never really adapted to non-competitive life and isn't much of a pleasure ride. She is extremely strong to school and hack out and likes to power through her work just to get it over with. I am only riding her a few times a week for 45 mins or so, but even this seems to wind her right up!
What do you do with your broodmares, and what do you think I should do - turn her away with our youngstock (rugged if req'd) or keep riding to keep her in shape?

I've always ridden the pregnant mares up till a month or two before the average due date. Over the years all have foaled easily and returned to their lovely figures very quickly afterwards.

From what you say about your horse, I think I might just leave her. Sounds too stressful for all concerned to be honest.

I rode Bloss back home from the vets 2days after she was inseminated!! Shes been in normal work since then with 1 day off a week.

Shes nearly 4months now and is starting to slow down a bit, but i school/lunge her for 20mins everyday and when i hack her out its for about an hour in walk and trot.

She'l soon let me know when she dosent want to do anymore.
