I was going to go show jumping tomorrow on 1 older girlie, but hase decided not to go because found out the riding school there has Equine Influenzia and although mine are vaccinated, I don't want to risk it.

So looking for something else to do, I found a UK chasers xc course, 1 foot 3 - 3 foot 9 or something like that, and have decided to take my older girl. I asked my friend if she wanted to come, and she suggested I could ride my 6 year old whilst she takes my other mare (she's 11).

Only I'm not sure..VERY tempted as its great fun to do with someone else, and my youngsters adores xc, but the thing is she's only been jumped 3 times (all very successfully) since a 2 month break from jumping as she was getting a little stale. I'm tempted to go because as I said, she does LOVE cross country so much, its like, her favourate thing ever, but I don't know if its too much too soon again.

She only had 2 months off jumping, she was still in work and is very fit, and I'd only be jumping up to about 2 foot 6 as don't want to over-faze her...

Opinions?

The ground is very good in that place by the way, though tad concerned it might be too hard with frost but its only going to be -1 tonight.

Thanks

Have decided not to take her - plenty of time to take her in the Spring when we're both better prepared and I can still take Willow!

Best to go with my head not my heart.

My only concern would be the hardness of the ground. Most horses could practically step over 2ft 6, as long as she's generally fit I really don't think you'd have a problem

as long as there isnt a bad frost i really dont see the problem?

horses who are experienced at jumping should be fine going a few weeks without jumping and then doing it again. when george was younger and eventing we very rarely jumped him at home, he knew how to do it and so i would save his best for competing.

yes, youngsters need it more but its not as if you havent done it for ages and have decided to go competing is it? why not go for the ride itself and just do bits, im sure you will know your horse well enough to know how well she is going and how juch is enough!

have fun if you do decide to go!

often my mare only jumps at shows, as i dont want to over-do it by jumping too much at home. usually she only jumps at shows or in a lesson so sometimes goes competing without having jumped for a good few weeks before and is fab

See I'm so paranoid -laughs- But I was gonna go, orginally, to have fun with Willow, and its her first time xc for years and I'd rather do it with her than my friend xD (I'm so selfish!)

I'll take Lacey in springtime when I have a little more control over her and will post lots of piccies then!

Thanks though
