Good grief. It's hardly a stupid question - I have seen far, far more ridiculous questions on here. I have 30 years' experience and I still spend a lot of time thinking about rugs, especially in spring, autumn and at times of total freak weather like now. I don't think it reflects badly on the OP at all. So, OP, take no notice.
And fwiw I'd keep the fleece on if he's in tonight - a lot of people assume the stable is the warmest option when actually the lack of movement can make them cooler.
