My sisters TB is 16.2 and a half :) but carries himself very head high.
We have a ifor williams 505 trailer but when we put him in there, with no partion, to see if he went in he had 2inchs of head room.
He is an exracer and used to rear in the stalls, we have watched a couple of his racing vidoes and seen him do it as he came out, they had to blindfold him to get him in them.
A few people said he would be fine in a bigger trailer but quite a few others said that if he reared in the stalls they wouldn't risk it. If he had a panic moment traveling then we run the risk of turning the trailer over.

What do you guys think? he traveled over 4 hours in a lorry when we went to pick him up and he spent 9years racing so he is fine in a lorry.

So you have already put him in there and he was fine? did you leave all the ramps down or did you put him in and shut it all up as though you were travelling.

If you have done it a few times and he seems happy, then maybe try just starting up the trailer and if he is still OK, moving off for a very short distance. If you want to give him more room you could take out the partition? or is there anyone else who perhaps has a larger trailer you could try him in?

Rearing in the stalls is due to anxiety/excitement at what is to come (the mad gallop!). It is entirely different to travelling in a trailer, so yes, I would try him in a larger trailer.

We didn't shut the ramps and there was no partion in as he is a big boy. He did go in and out three times but as his head was so high we didn't want to shut the ramps up and him startle as he'd have a headache :).
He was a little reluctent to go in but when we asked a bit more firmly he went in better.

We have to rent one as no one we know has a bigger one to borrow.

Thanks

Personally I wouldnt want to travel him in a 505 although I have a friend who travels her 16.3 in one with no problems at all. My boy is 16.2, hasnt a high head carriage but his ears touched the roof and he was just too big in general. We had no partitions in either but I dont think he would have fit if we had had them in.
I think 505 should be up to 16hh really. Id definately consider swapping your 505 for a 510, they are so much more roomier.

We wasn't going travel him in the 505 once we saw the head room. We would buy another one as my mare falls over traveling in a lorry and in a trailer with another horse. She has to have the partion out and be cross tied and she is fine. Both my sister and i have 4x4s that will tow so if he fits in and travels it fine when we rent one then would would just buy one and hae the two so we can go out together.
