As above I don't know what to do for the best for my young mare. I brought her as a 4 year old broken which in hindsight prob wasn't the best idea, she was already perfectly schooled but a typical youngster! During that year we had lessons once a week and went to the odd dressage clinic nothing much.

As a 5 year old we started Showjumping she was already well schooled jumping, only jumped on surfaces not in fields I then discovered she had mild kissing spine, X-rays showed that one vertebrae had fused, had cortisone injection in the feb not had any problems since.

She's now 6 turned 6 in April, done a few xc and SJ she seems plagued with injury, I wonder if i'm pushing her too much and should just put her in the field for 12 months to mature ..

Injuries so far!

Kissing spine diagnoses as 4 year old - vet ensured meno further damage would done, just lots of Pessoa work
Tendon on knee from kicking stable door as 5 year old
Splint

Slash on chest ( my fault salt lick holder)

My horse who's just turned six is struggling. He had a keratoma removed and upon returning to work now seems to be suffering the after effects of spending a year or so being wonky and compensating for the foot pain. You do get in a bit of a vicious circle with horses and one wrong bit leading to another wrong bit. Turning away can break the cycle but I'm sure you don't want to waste that time with your horse if its not necessary? Why don't you turn her away now with the aim to bring her back to fitness for next spring?
