Should i turnouthorse with mudfever?

I am not sure whether to turn my pony out. He has a small mudfever lesion on the back of his fetlock. I have cleaned it and treated it. Would he be ok to turn out if i put barrier cream on? I have no where else to turn him out but a swampy field. It is for about 8 hours a day while im at work.

One of mine had a few small scabs on his heel, I would bring him in to let his heel dry out, then treated it, then turned him out, after a week of doing this, its gone.

A difficult one and depends on the horse really - one of mine has some small patches of mud fever so I bring him in overnight and put sudocreme on the patches, which seems to be helping.

However he grazes on a well draining hill field, and the only mud he comes in contact with is in the gateway. Tbh if my field was 'swamp' like I would not be risking it.

Depends really on the pony, can he go out less during this wet muddy time? Can he go out say 2-3 times a week for not as long rather than 8hrs every day? Keratex Mud shield or the Muddy Buddy mud fever powder are both really good products to keep the wet off the sore area. My horse lived out last winter and both products worked really well. The problem with mud fever is it can soon turn to cellulitis if it becomes infected.

If the pasture is going to cause him to be standing in wet grass or mud constantly I would keep him in the stall until the mud fever healed, otherwise it is not going to get any better. I would also try to figure out an alternative to turning him out in a swampy pasture---as there are worse diseases that your pony could get being turned out in those conditions.
