Just musing really. Been at my current yard for over twelve years. We have had our ups and downs for sure but basically I have been quite happy there.I moved my old boy off there to a large nearby yard that does retirement livery.I have been very impressed with the standard of care and professionalism of the yard.
They also do full livery there. The facilities are better and during the summer they have off road hacking.
They also have daily turnout every day of the year. Our yard is restricted a bit during the winter.
Its a bigger and busier yard but the atmosphere on our yard has changed. It used to be quite an easy going
yard but isn't any longer.
On the other side I know the staff well where I am.As I say.Just musing.

Although the new yard is bigger and busier is it also friendly and supportive? A big factor for me is the people and whether I feel comfortable spending time somewhere.

I’m struggling to see why you are not racing over there immediately!! Better facilities, off road hacking, daily turnout, professional standards…
I guess you have friendships/bonds at the current yard?

Yes it's a bit that I suppose fear of change.I might book a couple of sessions in their school and see how I feel riding there.

Well the retirement livery is under seperate management i.e they have their own staff and manager for that side. The other side has its own staff,
I can only talk about the retirement side but to me it is amazing. They have loads of land. They have grazing suitable for the weight watchers as well as mainstream. They have "hospital paddocks" if a horse needs to come up for a vetinery problem as they discovered that the retired horses can't always cope with being in a stable. They have their own laundry.Red is rugged. In due course that rug will be changed and the old rug washed, labelled and put away for next winter.Just had a little reminder that he needs his jab and teeth doing and they have a routine vets call every wednesday.Everything just works.Every horse is caught up,checked over and given a treat every day.
They do definately treat every horse as an individual. For instance one old boy has no teeth. He can manage grass so he is turned out in the summer but is stable kept with a bit of turnout during the winter and fed mash.He looks happy and content. Can't praise them enough really.

New yard sounds better, especially as you've already had a chance to keep a horse there and experience it first hand. Imagine it will also make your life a bit easier having both the horses at the same yard again.
