OK, I know the BSJA have been accused of talking a lot of BS, and for sure some people are full of BS, and showjumpers can talk a lot of BS, while many of the rules are BS, but did they really need to rebrand as BS...?

Or is it just me that thinks along these lines...lol

Or maybe I'm completely wrong and this thread is BS.

I think the idea was that it fits better with the other disciplines, ie. BD and BE.

Doesn't really matter what they're called tbh, still a lot of work to do whichever name they choose.

I must say I had to wonder which bright spark came up with the international shorthand for Bull Sh*t.

No doubt paid a barrow load of cash as well.

B.S indeed.

I think they need to do more than just re-brand the governing body to improve the image of the sport in general!

BS indeed. Lord above they need a few brighter sparks working on their PR.....

In all seriousness, I'm amazed it passed muster. Okay, I know it's a juvenile joke and I can see the reasoning behind bringing it in line with the other disciplines (Has BE ever had a name change? Eventing has struggled with names in North America.) but did the powers that be really not see the potential for it to become a laughing stock? Would any other national company be so cavalier with its image?? Besides which, the BSJA has an international reputation, connected in many people's minds with the heyday of British domination of the sport.

It's true that the Americans (and Canadians) rebranded long ago (although I know lots of people who still call all the various bits by the old names) but it doesn't seem to have produced massive gain and that was without resorting to a double entendre.

It was originally part of the BHS, then it was BHTA (British Horse Trials Association), couldn't tell you when it changed though - over 10 years ago I suppose

BE started out as BHSHT, & then morphed into BHTA (I think) when they broke away from the BHS before eventually becoming BE.

I am sure that the rebranding is at the behest of the BEF to bring the BSJA into line with BE & BD. I was under the impression that it was going to be BSJ though...having automatically idscounted BS & BJ for what I thought were perfectly obvious reasons !!

I believe there was a rather colourful thread about this in Competition riders a while ago...

Yes, I e-mailed them a couple of months back to ask who thought it was a good idea to rebrand to BS. They said "showjumping" was in line with some dictionary or other - I think they missed my point.

I always thought show jumping was correct too. Apparently I'm wrong. It's just a load of old BS.

I think the idea to get 'in-line' with others is okay, but they really should have thought about the initials more! LOL at BJ! In the event that they could think of nothing better, they should have just stuck with BSJA. At least, that way, they would avoid the abuse and constant use of BS as an insult that no doubt will follow when they make mistakes!

So we have BS
is that
British Swimming
British Skiing
British Sailing
British Soccer
British Surfing
British Skateing
British Shooting
British Snowboarding

Bright people needed for the BSJA to take us forward not this type of new labour gimmick.

It's going to take alot more than rebranding and a brilliant PR campaign to bring the BSJA into the 21st centuary. The whole slate needs to be wiped clean. Get rid of the "old boys (and girls) club" running the shambles, including the selection and training. The whole provinical attitude does our country no favours at all.

Unfortunately it is a follow up of the Idiots that call The Horse of the Year Show..HOYS it devalues it.I even heard Hoys being used on Sky TV .
But wilh something like changing from BSJA to BS I would expect the members to be consulted, because this is BS Blo#dy Stupid theses people that now takes control of most Associations think they have a open hand to do as they wish starting with there own expenses.

the time and effort spent on re-branding could have been spent more wisely. as i for one like many others couldn't afford to affiliate this year and then they waste hard earned cash on something like this !!!
