Should this have happened so soon?

At my yard, our way of ending our Summer Shows is by doing Team Games. I took my horse in a team and he seemed perfectly fine till we had finished and he was back in his stable when I noticed he had a missing shoe. He has never pulled a shoe off before and he was acting up like most of the other horses.

He had only got these shoes on a week previous, a lot of my friends have said this should not have happened, the farrier did not do his job properly but i'm not sure whether he managed to pull it off because he was acting up or whether it was not put on properly? has anyone else had this happen to their horse or should it not have happened?
 
How does a shoe not get put on properly anyway when they nail it on?? If it was down to the farrier, it would have probably happened before. I think its a bit mean balming the farrier - and if you say that to him you will probably find yourself without a farrier!

If he was acting up, he probably stood on the back of his shoe and pulled it off. One of those annoying things that sometimes happens..
 
One of mine managed to not only pull her shoe off 3 days after being shod, she managed to turn it into a pretty "S" shape too.......numpty horse.
These things happen! Not the farriers fault, but if you have the lost shoe, I am sure the farrier will come back and put it on for you, at minimal cost.
 
It doesn't mean the farrier didn't do his job properly at all, shoes can and do come off. My farrier once told me that it is more common for them to come off in the first week after shoeing, not sure why though. I wouldn't waste time listening to 'would be' experts or looking to blame the farrier, i would just get him reshod and put it down to experience.
 
It didnt cross my mind that it wasnt on properly as he does like to act up quite a lot as he gets excited very easily and it was a few of my friends that were questioning whether it couldnt have been done properly even though he had never had problems before with his shoes and the farrier always has done a good job with his shoes

Im not sure how he was shod as i wasnt on the yard when he got done but he always only gets 4 nails in and i remember this as he had to get shoes off before as the farrier was on holiday and he badly needed done so my friend to his shoes off and this time when he pulled it off there was 2 nails left in his foot.

If my horse pulls a shoe- it almost always in the first few days- it's something about the hoof growing around the nails which helps to secure the shoe, not sure if thats exactly what happens, but it makes sense the hoof is a living thing. Poor farriers get blamed for a lot! x
 
I feel bad as my friends are wanting to blame to farrier but they dont realise how much he was acting up that day and when I spoke to the farrier a week later as I was at Blair Atholl so couldnt get it sorted he was quite happy to take a look and see if he was able to get it back on but unfortunately he couldnt as his hoof was too short so took the other one off and filed his feet a wee bit fre of charge but he has been really good about it and has said he will put them both back on and knock a wee bit off the price
 
Most farriers if a shoe is lost in the first week and you have the shoe they will put it back on free of charge.
You can normally tell by looking at the shoe which end was stood on for it to be pulled off as the shoe is no longer flat.
I try to do some road work in the first wek of a shoe going on as it helps bed the nails into the shoe.
My cob has poor feet (tried everything) so he has 3 nails in each side (6 in total) and he tends to stand on his own feet when getting excited, so his have to be very secure. x
