Should we have to justify ourselves?

The hunting forum is probably a better place for this, but I posted on another topic in there today and nobody answered me =(

My question is, now that the hunting ban is (regrettably, IMO) in place, should we have to justify our decision to hunt? After all, surely these days to hunt=to drag hunt (I'm not really aware of how much illegal hunting activity goes on, but I know where I live the packs are all draghunting).

I, somewhat stupidly I guess, wrote on my facebook how excited I was that I was finally getting to go hunting- mainly for the benefit of horsey friends. Then a non-horsey friend wrote on my wall "publicising breaking the law by putting in on your facebook, that's clever". I explained to him politely (as I don't like getting into fox hunting arguments) that I would not be breaking the law as I will be drag hunting.

I don't feel that I should have to justify myself here- the hunting ban has been in place nearly 3 years, if people are concerned enough about the evils of fox hunting to have a go at me because they think I am doing it, then shouldn't they at least do some research into how most packs are operating these days? Or do people just see the word hunting and think it's fair game to have a rant? Would they be as against it if they knew that, on Salisbury Plain, where I will be (hopefully) going to my first meet, the MoD are using snares as their preferred method of legally controlling the fox population?

Sorry, a bit ranty- it just winds me up when people have a go about things like this, with no idea what they are talking about!

NO, but in cases of ignorance (such as this) I do think people should be corrected as to how the law stands so that they may refrain from bleating the same tripe at others.

That would REALLY wind me up too

I try to educate people in the way things are now, and occasionally in my reasons for believing that fox hunting should not have been banned. Sadly, even amongst friends, this normally results in an argument where people get all emotive and start talking about "poor little foxes" and "dogs tearing them apart". True, I have never been fox hunting, but my dad used to a lot and I believe what he has told me about it. It usually ends up that the other person says "well, you would hunt anyway, wouldn't you, you're a posh person with horses"

*sigh*

You should not have to but to a non horsey person they perhaps would not realise that there is such thing as drag hunting. I know when I spoke to my friend at the yard and mentioned i would love to take Baron hunting she started telling me how she was against it etc etc. She did not realise there was such things as drag hunting and thought all the hunts that were still going were all law breaking horsey people, and she IS a horsey person.

I'm a horsey person and I'm confused by the hunting ban. I would like to take my mare but I don't believe in killing anything so would like to go on one following a laid scent but apparantly some hunts chase the fox then shoot it? The local one to me (Ledbury) is always being mentioned as one that 'pushes' the law so I must confess I'm a bit dubious...

However no you shouldn't have to justify yourself but hunting is a VERY controversial topic so it will always stir up an arguement!!

Honestly, the number of people who criticize without knowing what they're talking about it soooo annoying and yet very prevalent. Soooo, whilst you shouldn't HAVE to justify yourself, whilst there remains ignorance, you'll have to bite the bullet and enlighten the ignorant.
Hope you enjoy your day, BTW! I believe drag hunting is faster than 'normal' hunting.

That's just a prime example of the attitudes of people who know nothing about hunting/the countryside etc. To just assume that you will break the law is downright RUDE imo and I would be fuming!

I used to go drag hunting before the ban and we used to get antis hurling abuse and throwing things at us
