my mare has very sensitive skin so im led to belive as her rugs always seem to bug her bald on her shoulders with or without a vest on. if anyone has any advice or help let me no
I find that the rug type matters a lot. I have had terrible rubbing problems with Weatherbeeta Freestyle rugs that are "shaped" to the shoulders. I don't get rubs with the standard Weatherbeeta cut with the longer shoulder dart.
Some of my horses have been much worse than others, and with the bad ones I found lycra vests worked a lot better than satiny ones.
oh yes. might try the lycra vest... and i have a weatherbeeta taka turnout and advise people not to get one!! they are a hurredous fit on my tb mare and on my friends dales pony!! they just dont fit properly!! haha rant over
I bought a Bossy Bib for one of my mares last year, and was amazed at the results. The hair grew back on her shoulders and withers, I am planning to use it again once she comes out of her lightweight rug - she lives out 24/7.
lycra vest and a rug that actually fits your horse love my taka lots of rugs rub my boy but he can go the whole winter in his weatherbeta taka without a vest no problem
I fine rugs with nylon linings do the trick, and make sure you don't put a narrow fitting rug (eg Amigo, Rhino) on a wide horse. I've never had a rubbing issue with my Fals or vome to think of it the Weatherbeeta Orican. The Orican doesn't have any silly shoulder darts and fits well I find on both broad and middle sized chests.

Another one here that loves Weatherbeets's. I've had Fal and Masta rugs that don't fit, but Weatherbeetas fit like a glove. It's all down to finding the right brand for your horse..
Not too expensive i dont think, I would buy two tho, one for outdoor and one for indoor, eespecailly in this weather with it getting so wet. Alternativley if you are a bit handy you could buy one and make one..
