I eat my words a little bit!

I bought one years and years ago and it was worse than useless. leaked so badly i may as well have been turning out in a fleece- I have wondered since if i had a faulty one as the reviews on here are so good, wasn't going to risk it though as they are not even "cheap"

However, I needed a walker rug. I'm currently doing some rehab- muscle building type ground work and walking out with the TB I brought home recently and in this weather we are getting soaked! I don't want to do it with a rug really because of it restricting his shoulder.
A new livery at a yard i work at had a really smart walker rug and it had no filling (my horse is a cob in a TB body- he really hates being kept warm) and it seems no fill walker rugs are few and far between, I was really surprised it was a Ruggles!
Its 1200D reflective strips and just really nicely cut/made AND a brilliant price!

So I've ordered him one. I placed the order yesterday, free postage and got a text this morning saying its out for delivery today.

I'm really impressed! This has totally changed my maybe unfair opinion of them. What a great company.

They've always been great for me. I've called them a number of times with measurements to check the rug will fit and they have always taken time to explain and suggest options.

Never found a better fitting rug for my Suffolks. The Epic (Big Horse Shop) seem more suited to the modern Clydesdale and Shires so we're always a little tight on the shoulders.

Current baby dinosaur is in shires because he hasn't filled out yet (and they were half the price) but when he grows up he will get his own Ruggles turnout.

He already has a Ruggles waffle rug which I love, so adaptable and useful for so many situations.

Oh wow! I didn't know you had Suffolks! My friend has Normandy Cobs, No idea really how they compare but Swish have fitted them really nicely as well, to me they are absolutely massive horses ;) about as wide as they are high

How do the actual rugs come up size wise? I like the look of the 50g stable rugs but they are sold out in 6'3. He borders on 6'3 -6'6 depending on brand.

Ohhh and they do loads of shetland size stuff, this could get very dangerous!

My Munchbeans wear Ruggles rugs, in fact one of them was fit model for 4'6 rugs once. Said Munchbean is out at the moment in the rain in her 50grm Ruggles rug, which is about 3 years old now and will be dry as a bone later when she pootles in. She also looks adorable in it

How deep are they? I haven't found any other than Premier Equine that are anywhere deep enough for my boys. Everything else looks like a mini skirt on them but I could do with another 50g, it's the only weight I don't have two of - or the ability to make 2 with liners.

If you go for the HH ones, very deep. The horse pictured had a 64" girth on his huge saddle.

Can't advise on the regular cut ones.

sorry to derail the thread a bit OP, but has anyone used the lycra body wrap (no neck) and can offer any insight on the size guide?? i’m really torn on what size to get🤣 pony is 5”6 in rugs but 5”9 in fleeces coolers and fly rugs, would also like to use it on lily occasionally who’s 5”9/6”0 - usually medium would fit the bill but they don’t give much detail!!

I’ve had two Ruggles turnouts for about 10 years and they are still pretty waterproof. A little heavy when wet but I would definitely buy again.

My Ruggles no-fill has never been anything other than useless. It leaks over the bum, the shoulders and has started leaking behind the wither.

The ones with weight in have been fantastic. My 50g rug is on its 6th year. I second the good customer service too - I had all the strap stitching on a 100g rug fail and I had a new one when their new stock came in.

This is Archie in the old 50g - he is 750kg-ish and 6'9 in HH rugs. They are really nicely cut, though Big Horse Shop fit him slightly better.
