Im looking for some boots for my hunky calves, I think my calves are about 16-17 inches wide, and I take a standard length...

The boots I've tried so far are too blinking tight and I can't get them done up  the only boots I've seen out that come in x wide are short, just because I'm challenged in the leg width department does not mean I'm also short :(

The problem is the more I ride the more muscular my legs have become. OH says I have the legs of a female shot putter

Any help appreciated, would not be able to spend a fortune, but would be willing to invest in a pair but will have to save up the pennies, so cheaper options preferred (under £200) otherwise I'm considering either saving for a posh pair or biting the bullet and saving for made to measures.

Any help please. Would also preferably like to be able to try them on if possible :D ordering is a pain to post them back, I'm not organised enough...

Hi, I have the same problem and bought some from the English Gaiter Company, which are really nice, cost around £130 and come in loads of sizes. There are quite alot of saddlers who stock them, so you may be able to find some to try on.

Hope this helps

Thank you, will have a look, and funnily enough need the saddler to come out so will see if she stocks them, or has any idea who does :D

Regent are also fantastic for the blessed of calf mine are 17" the boots come in various widths and heights for less then £150 in brown or black rideaway do them.

Ooo thanks will have a look at those too.

I went to Robbies and the sales lady didn't have any suggestions and just pointed me in the direction of ff without suggesting any others to try... Was not impressed in the slightest.

I have ariat bromonts in wide, they're a bit more expensive than you're budget but worth it! They have hidden elastic all the way down the zip so stretch after a couple of wears. They're warm and waterproof but smart enough for competitions too.

ive got mountain horse high rider as i have chunky calves and wide feet....they are really comfy and i think they come in different lengths. i got mine from e bay for £93 plus p & p...normal price about £140 i think......i love them just read your title, they may be too chunky looking for show boots but i use them daily for yard work and riding...

I like the bromonts, but didn't think they would fit, will try them and hope for the best :D
I don't mind paying more for a good quality pair that will last, if I have to get a pair made I'll end up having to pay a fair bit more anyway :o just means I'll have to wait a month or so, but will be worth it as I'm sick of jodphur boots and gaiters, or riding in wellies which is a bit naughty...

I'll have a look at them too, as may go the whole hog and get a long yard pair at some point in the near future if they fit my calves in them :D

Equitector - they will make to measure too. I paid about £150 for mine in a 17" calf - was about 3 years ago though, good quality, supple up well and last for ages, mine are still going strong.:)

I have the same issue. I wear toggi Calgary boots. They come in wide and have elastic around the calves to ensure a nice fit. Best bit is they are under £100

The Fuller Fillies boot quality is totally rubbish plus the show boots are fully elasticated at the back and I thought looked really naff.

I bought a pair of Shires Norfolk Books for £124.00 their XXxL calf width measure up to 43 cms and they do a short fitting good quality leather for the price too, with just a zip up the back like a normal boot. Do a High side dressage and a laced version too.

I've tried the shires Norfolk, I got told that they didn't do the xwide in the standard length, only the short. I tried the short xwide and could do them up... Hurrah... However they where a good inch or 2 too short. Yack. :(

Yack indeed there are obviously benefits to being a short arse!

Before I found these wonderful shires boots my options were apparantly as I wanted a good quality boot a mountain Horse Richmond which was a classic boot not the thick more rugged boots they do which were going to be about £250 and would be on 4 month back order or a Made to measure Cavello which would have been £400 which actually I thought was not too horrific for a made to measure boot.

I have similar issues, long lower leg, small foot (size 4) muscular calf, small ankle. I find anything other than ariats a bit short, though Mountain horse sportives aren't bad if I go up a foot size. I only need the regular in MH but the wide in ariat. Ariats are super long too!

My friend who can't get ariats to fasten has the mountain horse Richmond and they look really smart.

I have a pair of the Robinsons's softy boots (have big feet and big calves) and they were under £100, are really nice, soft leather which didn't require any breaking in. I wouldn't use them as every day boots as I don't think they would stand being used around the yard but they make lovely show boots on a budget.
