Show boots for the chunky calves ladies

mountain horse classic high rider :)

Don't think they sell them new any more but they are still around 2nd hand on ebay for around £100... voila the link for a pair in size 5 1/2 regular length, wide calf!

I have a pair in size 5 standard length and they do go round my 17" calf (just - but that beats any other boot I've found so far!). Ironically I find them a little long in the leg but hoping they will drop once I start wearing them regularly.

Do you want show boots? If so the best quality for wide calfskin on a budget is the brogini

I quite like the brogini's but would like to try before I bought them... If anyone knows a stockist in the north west, preferably Cheshire way

I have similar issues, long lower leg, small foot (size 4) muscular calf, small ankle. I find anything other than ariats a bit short, though Mountain horse sportives aren't bad if I go up a foot size. I only need the regular in MH but the wide in ariat. Ariats are super long too!

My friend who can't get ariats to fasten has the mountain horse Richmond and they look really smart.

I'm thinking the ariats won't fasten... Will make my way to somewhere to try my way through the mountain horse range tho... Will try the ariats and hope for the best :o

I have a pair of the Robinsons's softy boots (have big feet and big calves) and they were under £100, are really nice, soft leather which didn't require any breaking in. I wouldn't use them as every day boots as I don't think they would stand being used around the yard but they make lovely show boots on a budget.

Will try the softies, but then again I'm not too fond of the quality of some of the Robbies stuff... What's the quality of the softies like?

Ooh thanks, will take a look at those too :D

Another vote for Toggi Calgarys. I've got the biggest calves known to woman kind (especially after one got crushed by a hoof) and they fit me after a bit of stretching. :)

Thanks, will also try to hunt a stockist for those :D

And here was me thinking all hope was lost and I'd be doomed for jodphur boots and gaiters for all eternity, hopefully will be able to find a pair!

Or, what about going for broke and splashing out on the credit card ....... I have got chunky calves, slim ankles and small feet and wear MH boots for every day. They used to do a very smart version of the day to day one which I do also possess. However, when I was doing dressage and showing regularly I really went for it. I have got a divine pair of made to measure Davies Riding Boots, had it done at their trade stand at Badminton. They are in a very classic design without zips, and I have garter straps attached to it. Cost me well over £600, but they are like wearing gloves.

I was informed they would last me 30 plus years with good maintenance, so think of all the boots you will pay for in that period of time.

It's tempting but I don't know if I can justify it, I don't do that much at the moment, just the odd bit of dressage, although would like to try do a bit more in the summer... Something I may look into in the future tho. May blow the budget next year if I get a job I'm applying for next year :D

Having said that my gaiters I got from a local saddler are still going relatively strong after 10 years

My calves vary between 17-20" depending on time of year and none of the above mentioned boots would fit me.

I bought a pair of Ariat Grasmeres last year and they are lovely to ride in and fit nicely with the laces being a great benefit. They're not really for showing in though, although I'd go hunting in them, I reckon.

I currently show in Fuller Fillies Ali-gaitors and short boots, and they've sufficed for the last year or so. But having the Ariats has made me want a pair of proper show boots, so I'm off to look at the Shires Norfolk boots over the next couple of weeks. I wouldn't mind buying Fuller Fillies boots, but I'm fussy and want to try them on first, and the Norfolks are currently more accessible.

I'm sure you will find something in the mountain horse range. Bear in mind that they will give a bit. I could only just fasten mine when they were new, but they have lasted me years and are lovely and comfy now. I found the wide fitting too baggy so I guess you might be ok. The high riders are nice for every day but not really smart enough for competing, the sportive is smarter and would be ok for dressage, and show jumping, but probably not smart enough for showing. They do a couple of smarter designs though the classic and the richmond and maybe others too, and the wides are good and wide!

I have Fulla Fillies, They are not the best boots in the world but they fit! I also hear that they have improved them and that the leather is now better and the zip stronger. I did not order from them but found a local shop that sold them. I must admitt I'd given up all hope of ever finding boots to fit me and even with their short comings I am delighted with my boots.
