Ive recently bought a new horse, and looking to show him a bit this year. It will be nothing major.

I have brown tack, my horse is an arab x connemara.

For my clothing would i need brown boots and brown or tweed jacket?
Or can i stick to my usual black show jacket and black boots, oh and black hat?

Thanks :)

depends on what you want to show him as? black leather boots (human) will go with most tweed jackets which are more flexible than black show jackets. brown tack for showing is best in my opinion. but again depends on the level of showing and the class chosen.

It's not the case of whether they will go, just will it be acceptable? The shows i will be going to wont exactly be county level lmao, just local ones for things like riding classes and such.

Thanks

Try to aim as close as to what I am wearing in this picture:

Ideally your hat should be any colour other than black, I am wearing brown as it matches my tweed (brown) and Chancer's colouring. Your tweed can be any colour to match your horse, but blue is for some reason, not popular. You can wear a navy jacket depending on the class you are doing, but black is not correct for females.

Shirt and tie, never a stock - I wear a cream or corn shirt and mustard/gold tie - again most colours are ok, but not white. My breeches are beige - but you can have canary or corn, but again not white. Black boots, but I some do wear brown and I am considering this for myself. Gloves - brown, tan or canary but never black.

I also have a green tweed with navy hat, yellow shirt and red tie with corn breeches for Farra as this matches her colouring better than what I wear on Chancer.

To finish, have a tie pin - not too much bling. Hair nearly tied back and netted or in a bun if long enough. Numbers - buy some very thin elastic and have it as tidy as possible. Some people round the corners on their numbers. A show cane, again not black finishes the picture.

Tack should be clean and neat - brown is correct, if you need something under the saddle, again as neat and to blend with the horse as possible. Mine in the pic is not a good example, but the saddle was a little wide and needed a sheepskin with some padding, plus he is slightly long in the back and it helps make him look shorter. Only use a coloured browband in the correct class, and ideally the correct bit and noseband for the class.

Make sure plaits are tidy and sewed in and everything is done to create a neat picture.

Above all, have fun.
