Hi all!

A little advice needed! I have a 15.2hh coloured cob mare who I compete regularly in dressage and at local level showing (veteran classes). She is fully clipped and trimmed up, and her mane is pulled / herein lies the problem!

Reason being she won't let me hog her - I've owned her 12 years and she's never let me touch her ears to trim or do anything with. She has no problems, but I believe she was ear twitched as a foal - so clippers in that area are a no no! So I am wondering, will I be penalised for showing her as a ridden cob with her mane? If so, am I better heading for a hunter class? She is 15.2hh with approx 8 1/2 inches of bone. Advice?!

:)

If she's a proper cob it's unlikely she'll do well in small hunter classes. What level are you wanting to compete at because local shows usually let you show cobs hogged or plaited also, do you have any photos.

Will she let you do her mane/ears with scissors, much harder work but possible :)

Well I am doing local stuff at the moment, but there is a county show near to me in just over a month so I would definately like to do the veteran and possibly the cob or hunter class? Will post a pic shortly!

She definately looks a cob as opposed to a hunter. If its a county show its entries may have closed, i know ours close in mid april for an early June show. She looks very smart.

There's still a week or so to enter that's why I'm pondering!! She definately won't let me clip/trim anything around her head unless she's sedated, and I can't afford to do that for every show! So I'm a bit snookered really! Best just stick with the veteran and the coloured classes as apposed to a 'type' class if I can't hog?
