Right, looking at a BSPS winter qualifier now, and am trying to decide what to do...

Whats the difference between a Novice Intermediate show hunter and an open (restricted) intermediate show hunter?? Apart from obviously the novice is ridden in a snaffle??? And can I do both???

Also what then is the difference between Novice intermediate show hunter, and Novice intermediate show riding type... and which one is my horse??? Trying to do a bit more than coloureds this year, but am getting confused!!!!

Riding type is hacks and riding horses.

Yes you can do open and novice classes but once you have won at open you can no longer do novice classes.

Hope that helps

Novice is for horses that have not won a certain amount of money (need to check rules for each section)
Restricted is for any horse which has not qualified for certain competitions (usually RIHS and HOYS during the specified time) - again, you need to check the rules
Open is for any horse which meets the criteria of height and type.

stick a picture of your horse up. so we can have a looksee as to what he would be best in
Show hunters are heavier then the showriding types. For the show riding types you would want something of similar build to a hack or riding horse, For the show hunters, well they often double as small hunters as well.

Also intermediates have an age limit for riders of 25 i think.

For BSPS im not sure on the novice rules (they should have them in the schedule or phone the BSPS) but i think its not to have won an open class with a prize of more then a certain amount of money

For the restricted i do know the rules its not to have qualified for the RIHS or HOYS in the last 2 years.

Yesh, he's in between, thats the problem, he looks tiny in small hunters... hence why we dont do small hunter... but he's not quite a riding horse type, hes more a "competition type" which they never have a blinking classes around here for!!!!!! Also, being only 15.2 in a competition horse class he looks tiny! And its ok, I'm 23 I can compete in intermediates.

Here he is...

hunter type.
Ive won small hunter classes on a 15hher before so get the right judge and it doesnt matter that he isnt the biggest in the class.
