Right... Ok, I'm doing Intermediate Show Hunter as well as Coloureds for the first time this year... fed up of going to shows for one class!! Now there is a BSPS qualifier next weekend, but I'm unsure whether to do the Novice or the Open... He goes better in the Pelham.. but as I've never done a Show Hunter Class I don't know whether doing the novice might be better... I'm not sure really what they expect. I'll be doing the coloureds CHAPS Q at the same show so will be in the Pelham for that but not sure which Show Hunter class to do.

Any thoughts on this matter?? Or does it not matter so much??

I'd always go for the novice if I was eligable, unless I particularly wanted to qualify for the open championships, my horse was older or it needed practice in a double. How old is your horse? An older horse in a novice class can be less favoured by a judge than an older horse in an open class.

He's only 7 so not to old for a novice (from a judges point of view) I don't think. He does go better in the Pelham, in the snaffle he can get a bit strong and be a bit heady when he gets excited. Whilst in the pelham he is a lot more forward and carries himself better. Though I suppose the practise won't hurt. I'm only excluded from Novice after I've won 3 isnt it?? Don't think thats going to happen, don't know many champion intermediates who are coloured (though I'm sure there are some!!).

Yes, you're denoviced if you win 3 opens/restricted opens or are 1st-5th at RIHS or HOYS, but a lot of winter intermediate classes will only have 1 or 2 entries in them, so it could be easier than you think to be denoviced.
