Just for local dressage.

I prefer the look of navy blue but horse's tack and my boots/hat are black, so would it look daft?

I have both cream and white jods already so could match with either of those. I'm a size 8 but the second I pull white jods on, I seem to turn into a size 80. So cream is preferable.

What does everyone think - and any recommendations that won't break the bank?

I definitely prefer navy but have ishoos (!) with black and navy together so feel your pain however you would have black boots with either colour so I don't think it would look that bad - but make sure whatever you choose is right as you don't need anything to be bothering you! (Could be the perfect excuse to go tack shopping!;) When I bought my road bike the sales fella told me that I should take the colour choice seriously as I would be more likely to ride it if it was the right colour - and he was right!!

Haha :P yes I think I need to go and try both colours on when Christmas is out of the way. And then promptly not buy them but look for them cheap second hand on ebay.

What about dark grey? Would that look silly with black head, feet and tack - oh and cream jodhpurs?

Such difficult life-altering decisions to be made! :D

I have black tack but wear a navy show jacket because black really doesn't suit me! I look like I've been dead for a week if I wear black near my face:D. I wear a navy velvet hat silk and carry a navy whip. My boots are black. My pony is black and white, so with a white numnah it all looks fairly coordinated. Know what you mean about the white jods though. My legs aren't the slimmest but white just turns them into sausages :(.

One day I am going to make a 'before and after' shot of me in normal black or brown jods, then in white jods, showing the sudden and unnecessary ballooning they love to cause! I also have the black death effect which is why I'm leaning towards navy. Or even grey, just to throw a curve ball into the mix!

My horse (share horse) is the one in my avatar thing, bright bay so suits any colour.

Not sure if this will work, but I'll try to put a picture of us here.

personally, I don't think black looks right with cream breeches.
I have one of each - my black jacket is a bit more modern (pinstripes, fuschia collar, blingy gold buttons) whereas my navy is a more traditional style.

generally the tradition is that navy jackets are for women, black jackets are for men and tweed for both :)

However I believe it is different with tails but not sure. With tweed never white jods though :)
For showing, I would definitely get a navy jacket.

Colour of tack doesn't matter, know lots of people have black tack with navy jackets :)

Cowpony - you look very smart although would've guessed your jacket was black not navy going by that picture! Perhaps a dark navy is the answer :)

blood_magik Yes that's my other worry! So it's navy jacket, cream jods, black boots/hat/tack or black jacket, white jods, black boots/hat/tack. Or would I look alright in navy jacket but with white jods? And what would grey go with?! Like the sound of your bling!

Oh that's good! I was over-thinking the tack thing!

Thanks! I was thinking it looked very dark when I posted the picture, but I think it's just the exposure on the camera as the sky is behind (although as you point out, it is quite a dark navy). I like the grey jacket you have posted, but you'de definitely need white jods with that!

The dreaded white jods! I'm not even going to try them on as I know they fit and look awful, don't need reminding of it :D

Think navy jacket, cream jods, black boots and hat. Now I just need to try on about 100 jackets to find one that looks right...

you can wear white or cream with navy. Deffo white with the grey.

Someone at my yard jumps in breeches that are almost a sort of
tan colour - they'd go with black better than cream or beige.

Know what you all mean about the white breeches - I have avoided them for years, especially since 50 is fast approaching. Then I started looking around at my local dressage days at the "shapes" that were wearing white and decided that I was being a bit tough on myself. You know how we all are? Couldn't find any super models in attendance, but I wasn't going OMG at anyone either. So I'm going to give them a go ....However I have to say to those Web Stores selling them - could we have "real" riders in the pictures please? You may think they look "fierce", but we can all tell that those woman have never been on a horse in their life !

I mainly do dressage and showing.

I was brought up with the tradition of navy for ladies and black for men with regards to jackets and hats. I was also told white breeches are a no no unless your jumping. Cream is much more preferred.

I have a navy jacket and hat but hardly wear the jacket as I have two lovely tweed jackets that I can wear for both showing and dressage as my boy is a native.

I compete in dressage, albeit at a low level. My horse is a skewbald (mahogany bay / white). I wear cream breeches, navy jacket, navy silk, black tack, black boots and (horrors!) navy saddle cloth. I would love to wear a burgundy jacket to go with the burgundy saddle cloth as that colour really suits my horse. Do you think the judge would faint? :-)

Lol I think you better leave that to the jumping arena! What about a nice tweed with a burgundy pattern ?
