Show Jump Fillers

Hey all
Having visited Stoneleigh today for their fantastic unaffiliated show jumping classes, we have decided (or rather I'm trying to persuade the others lol) to try and club together as a riding school and buy some new fillers as we don't have many. I'm just wondering who other people use to buy these and where we can find good but cheap ones as the majority of liveries are teenagers with not a lot of cash lol! The brighter and scarier, the better.

On another note, big thumbs up to the Stoneleigh show if anyone wants to compete unaffiliated show jumping - was lovely to see a premier arena to compete in with fabulous jumps, proper course with a qualified course builder and lovely rosettes! There's another one on July 17th and 18th so I highly recommend a trip!
 
If you have anyone halfway decent at diy you can always make and paint them yourself - they are not difficult. That way you can make them as scary as you like and repaint them if the horses get too used to them!
 
I suggest, you go to the tip, and grab loads of wood! You can soon change anything into something and its fun and cheap. Imagination, a bit of artistic talent and some fun can make great new things!!
Also try timber merchants, and the scrappy - they usually have old oil drums.
 
The riding school where I take my daughter builds the fillers (with some sheet ply and a bit of wood for the legs!) then hands them out to teams of children. They then paint the fillers - the best one wins, kids are happy and so are the riding school with their new fillers......brilliant idea I think.

Surely teenagers would be a happy dab hand with some paint??!!
 
I remember painting my old yards fillers as a kid, was loads of fun, we had everything from spots & stripes, union jacks, zefrons and various others, great fun and cheap :)
 
I've made numerous wings & fillers over the years & it's very easy to do providing you have a little bit of diy knowledge & a few tools. Pallets are easy to get hold of, every time I have bedding delivered I get a pallet. Cut the pallet in half, add a couple of feet which is just a piece of 3"x2" bolted on each end & you have a filler. You can paint it, board it, whatever you want & it's cost just 4 bolts & a little time to make. Everyone has part used paint pots that they no longer want so aske about for paint. Don't skimp however on the painting, used undercoat first so the top coat keys & stays on.

Getting the wood for hanging fillers is more difficult & they are more fragile anyway.
 
I've made and painted my own before, which was really really good fun! But now we are a bit posher and bought a set of jump 4 joy showjumps. We did this by fundraising, tack sales (charge entrance and for people to set up a stand, plus refreshments), clear round days with our existing jumps, fancy dress pub rides, an in hand show, be creative!
 
We have a load of square bright red plastic drums, about 15" high which used to contain oil or antifreeze - try asking a garage, as they only pay to have their waste removed.

I've also a banner I used to use for work, 18" deep, which I'm going to adapt to hang from a pole I think. Having changed the colour scheme and logo of my website it's redundant. Bet there are lots of companies with surplus old banners if you ask about
 
Thanks for everyone's responses, we are looking into making our own but we also want to buy some proper plastic ones as well so I'm hoping someone will give me some advice on where's best to buy some please
