Just been watching some of the footage.

Can anyone tell me;

Why virtually all the lady riders have long blonde hair hanging down their backs in a pony tail???

Also, what is this compulsion with remoiving your chinstrap on your way out of the arena rather than waiting til you have dismounted??? Puzzling!

Its a fashion thing. If you showjump you need to buy one of those air vent hats and a long blonde wig. Its compulsory you know!

Are they pony tails attached to the helmets lol?

I do have a vented hat but I have long brown hair which is pulled back into a bun when I jump

I have to say though, the long ponytails look a mess!

A while back, wasnt there a rule in BSJA that long hair should be secured. H and S?, also, wasnt someone eliminated for their hat coming undone in the ring, whats the difference with undoing the chinstrap.Or was Olympia judged under FEI rules, and do they allow the above? So many questions....

I cannot stand people not wearing hairnets at competitions, I didn't half rant about the young foreign girl with extreamly long brown hair hanging down her back.

I don't know why people are so wound up about it all ? I have long hair. Tieing it back hurts your scalp added to which if you put it in a bun type thing tied up with scrunchies I find the band can ping off. I have so much hair it sometimes comes loose from hairnets too. I used to try and sleep in a hairnet to stop myself sleeping on my hair and hurting my neck as it pulled it during the night. Don't ask me how it can come lose with a hairnet when a hats on top but the back can - I think its if you have loads of hair then the elastic gets streched and it just frees itself.

I like the look of it free. It just sems a silly rule when if someone doesn't like the look of it your hair they just have to look in the other direction. I may not like the look of a part of your anatomy but I doubt I'd create a rule and comment on it. I seem to remember Linford Christie getting comments about pepole not liking his tight running shorts in the same way - but everyone warmed to them in the end!

It hurts your scalp to tie it back....???? It might hurt your scalp a bit more if you fall and get it pulled off by a horse traeding on it, or by gettig it caught any other way?

Hmmmm. But I don't think Mr Christie's lunchbox was ever going to do him a mischief if he fell?.......I may be on sticky ground here......!

I think if Mr Christie fell on his lunchbox he's be cross-eyed for a while from what I can remember!!!!!!

I always wear a hat when I ride and when I think of all the pro dressage riders who only EVER wear a hat at a competition or when backing a youngster, the risk of my hair being trodden on or pulled out

if I fell off is negligable. Riders that plait their hair/use hairnets but wear hats with no chinstraps in showing (a beagler?) or a top hat in dressage take more risks. As do those show jumpers who unbuckle their chinstrap the instant they cross the line. What do you bet they jump without a hat at home? Even in a ponytail the band often falls off but I have VERY greasy hair and was on roaccutane for acne so it is unusual hair I have. I rarely compete but if I do I do usually plait it then try and tie it up and tuck it under the back in some way. But I still like it loose adn want anarchy to rein with my loose hair and bling bridle. Maybe I am just a chav?

You will never see me ride at Olympia, sigh , but if you ever do, close you eyes and think of Linfords lunchbox

I believe the rule on straps only states the strap must be secured between start and finish lines.

Chinstraps or hats on or off on others bothers me not a bit as I kind of think what makes other people happy is not for me to criticise. Its none of my business at all in fact! And I am sure they would have more to think about than to criticise my hair!
