Thinking of doing the local SJ league next autumn. I haven't been going out at all over the last year due to transport and other situations and would love to do some dressage tests but all dressage activity is serious miles away and SJ is the main activity locally. I feel like going out and being sociable with my boy so think I will have to leave the Flat EArth Society.

I haven't jumped in two years but used to do regular SJ & XC - strictly nothing over 3 foot you understand. As I turned the big 50 last year am wondering if its wise but my boy is very solid and we've done lots of flatwork over the last couple of years so are both usually going in the same direction at the same time! The league starts at 70cm which my boy barely notices and I'm not so much afraid of falling as making a twit of myself as the 12.2s over at the Centre jump higher!

Half excited at the thought of it, half nervous but know I would enjoy it once I got started. I was thinking if I said I would start in September I have the summer to get ready, fit and jumping. I have 4 poles and lots of barrels to make up jumps and a lovely instructor to help.

Just wondering if any other grannies out there are jumping? The last time I was jumping I was going with a lady in her 60s - I always felt if she could do it, I had no excuse.

You'll have a blast! - You'll love it! Why wait 'til September?

I am not your age yet but was out of jumping for nearly 10 years through having the kids and have only really got back in the last year and I am loving it - although I am still a bit rusty and have forgotten loads!

There is a lady that I used to see at shows who still does jumping lessons & competes & I'd guess she's in her last 60's or early 70's.

I love hearing about more mature people who are still competing as it gives me hope that I'll be able to keep going.

Go for it!!

Everyone is right, get in the lorry and get out to those shows. If you put it off until September, you'll put it off until next year.

I'm considering competing again after 15 years away from it and I am also s******* myself but I remember the buzz a clear used to give me!!!

I have one veteran who would love to go jumping again and a youngster who is uber keen.

So tell you what, if you do I will!!!

I've never jumped my new TB before........until Friday!! I had a lesson, and my RI put 3 jumps up around 2ft 3in, before I could protest!
I've only had him 2 months, but it was brilliant

, and I hadn't jumped for over a year. In my late 40's too, so not as confident as I was, but I can't wait to go around the local uk Chasers course which has 40 jumps

What DO you mean Grandmas!!! I am 53and a half and as soon as I next get a chance I shall be burning up the ground cross country. The only reason I am not is my horse is laid up.

I spent this afternoon try in to decide at what age I would pack up owning a horse and had decided today that 74 seemed about right that gives me another 20 years then I will just play at dressage on someone else schoolmaster!

LOL - I was thinking if I posted about this HHOers would leave me with no excuse. Thanks a mil for the encouragement and yes, you're all right - I shouldn't put it off until September. Excited now at the idea and will get those poles off the ground! The time I injured myself was when I tore a ligament in my foot putting out the dustbin which only goes to prove that housework is far more dangerous than riding horses.

My friend's a glamorous granny and had a go at SJ at the local show, with family dutifully spectating. Unfortunatley, she did come unstuck and whilst hitting the deck granny taught her little gransons some new words they hadn't come across before!!

Go for it!

Not a granny but (possible grandad) I turn 48 shortly.
I'm out there most weekends playing BSJA and have absolutely NO intention of stopping any time in the forseeable future.

GO FO IT!!!!!
