Show-jumping heights at top-level national classes

I was quite amazed to read that the double of walls in the Cock o'the North class at the Great Yorkshire were 1.65 and 1.70m in height. There is nothing in front of the walls to bring the ground line out a bit so these are true vertical fences. I thought the fences looked big in the pictures, but that really is enormous!

How do these heights compare to top level national classes at other shows, and how do they compare with the fence height in eg. the Hickstead Derby?

The Derby Trial Qualififer at Hickstead was 1.60m
Doesn't say for the Derby proper, but probably around 1.65m

Speed derby qualifier 1.40m
Speed derby final 1.45m

Derby trophy 1.50m

Gamebird a lot of the fences in the final round were 1m 63 and above at the Great Yorkshire and I was surprised that there was only Joe Whitakers horse objected - although this was in the first round but it was only 3" smaller.

The maximum height of fences in NATIONAL classes (Area International Trials) is 1.55m. The max height for INTERNATIONAL classes (i.e Hickstead Derby etc) is 1.60m. The superleague nations cups are also 1.60m. I believe championships (Olympics / WEG etc) can go 5cms higher again.

All these heights are subject to local conditions of course...and the course builders stick lol!

So a big class at a county show could well be 1.55 in the first round and potentially as big as the wings will go thereafter?

Well, the AIT has a maximum of 2 fences at the max height of 1.55m...i guess the rest would be 1.50m. They must go up a minimum of 5cms in theJO though. I think 1.60m is probably big enough for a County Show lol!
