So today I braved it and went up a height class with Badger. We did 65-70 and 75-80.
The course was lovely. 65cm we had a refusal at fence one, but it was my fault as I wasn’t riding forward enough. Then he just absolutely flew round everything else in proper jump off mode. I had 0 brakes...!
Then we had about 30 mins til the 75cm and he switched off a bit I think. Got him going again and we had a few bucks into right canter. Absolutely sailed the warm up fences with room to spare. We got eliminated from this class though. I’m not sure if he was just so bloody knackered from bombing it round the 65cm or if he’s twinged something (hence the bucking) so I’ll keep an eye on him. The course and fences weren’t any different, so not sure why he would’ve refused as I rode it the same.
If he’s all okay and it is just that he’s tired himself out and it was too much effort, I’ll just do the 75cm next time because when he’s jumping them like this, I think 65cm is just a bit too small.
I think sometimes we need the challenge ourselves and sometimes it goes wrong when we step out of our comfort zone. The only way to get better is to do it again and again and again. But I swear, this pony is going to make a fab BSJA pony eventually!
