Show jumping spike poles

tell the yard owner make it clear you know what they are for , I think you should give her a chance to do the right thing then decide what to do.

OP am I right in thinking you posted the pictures in a certain FB group?

If it's the same poles it looks a lot worse than it sounds as well :(

Hope you get it sorted.

Yes, if you read the few comments made you will maybe know what's what there? I removed it as names were bandied around and I'm not sure what the truth is. The (very few) people supporting it are linked to the person using them (surprise surprise!) everyone else was appalled, but I'm glad you had seen it and can comfirm
why I'm so upset about it, I've never seen the like in my many
horsey years. Ive made my views known now. Thanks for your responses very helpful indeed x

WHW or an organisation like that may well be able to have them removed.

It's a part of the animal welfare act that animals should be protected against unnecessary pain or suffering. I'd speak to WHW completely annonymously and find out what they have to say on the matter. They may be able to come without leaving names and I think can insist they are sorted.

Whether they're intended to be used or not they can cause injury or suffering - both of which are unnecessary.

I'd be devastated if something like that turned up on my yard, not to mention sickened that someone could do that. But then again I know of a SJ comp groom who used to be told to put a form of acid on the horses cannon bones so if they knocked the poles it'd be agonising. It really makes you question what people could possibly be thinking.

I think contact YO first and tell them that you don't believe that they are suitable to be on site. If no notice taken in a reasonable time then do what Pearl says ^^^.

Then talk with your feet and let the other liveries know why before you go. Not in a nasty way but a polite word 'I'm afraid I don't agree with the practices being used, it's a pity to leave but I can't stay with practices like this used and accepted on site.'

Poles like that brought on our yard would be disposed of and the horse owner given notice.

An update, this is exactly what I did do..vote with my feet and left, spoke with people before and since leaving and was surprised at how many were aware, including most of the kids. Nobody supported the use of these and yet no one had raised it with YO??:confused:
