Show me your cobs/m&m's being shown in hand

If you have a cob/welsh/dales/fell, I wouldn't worry, just get some rollerskates and get your OH to stand on the ring side with a bucket of feed.

First ever show, in hand class, Dorey spotted a group of horses passing the ring and thought the hunt was leaving without her, so bolted. I kinda bounced along beside her attempting to look like I had some control.
Came second place in best young handler! :D

We also came second in prettiest mare with a resume of airs above the ground. Got death stared by 6 little girls with pretty like welsh sec As for that one! LOL!

Don't worry about winning, get out and get some experience. Little swine did a canter pirouette mid air right before this, spooked at the clapping in the ring then won. The cleaning and prep were hard work but worth it.

Wow Pec!!!!!!!!!! Love the welshies :D

I only show in hand now as my pony can't cope with the ridden classes he is far far to sharp :o but in hand he quite likes as he can do a nice spangly trot then sleep in the line up, and would rather I was beside him and not on top :o I say go for it, in hand is obviously very subjective we are either at the top or the bottom of the line up, depending on the judge. Good luck!!!! :D:D

Wow... Love your Welsh Pec :)

Here's my Sec D 'Parc Roberto' as a 3 yr old. Just really getting him out and about. Hoping to do a bit of ridden showing once he's fully backed.

Thorough wash the day before, tail done in Daz, bandage overnight with talc in damp feathers, up at the crack the next day, add talc as required, (use Johnson's baby powder, apparently it appeals to the judges!), keep wrapped up until class, use lots of baby wipes for horse, your boots etc. Spray with water before going in for extra non snippy shine. I was told judges hate to feel tons of product etc as they touch the horse.

Have a go MrsElle twelve years ago I first ventured into the show ring with a section D mare. I had never even watched an in-hand show before, the only advice I was given was follow the person in front which I duly did until I was pulled in first, I then had to ask the steward what to do. I was simply showing a section D mare that we had bought as a companion for my wife's Irish Draught. I was a 12 handicap golfer who was simply the driver. Unforunatly I got the bug. What I always get a buz from is the power and control of a Welsh Cob trotting alongside. I obviously like to do well (doesn't everybody?) but more inportant for me is that we put on a good show.
As for preparation, lots of grooming and walking out on the run up to a show, a good bath the night before spray with show sheen and brush over when damp. Mix chalk into a paste and paint onto the whites with a hoof oil brush. Rug overnight in a deep clean straw bed. Rug off in the morning, prapare in trailer, using baby oil, show sheen vaseline and brylcreme. Halter/bridle on, into the ring and hang on for the ride!!!!!!!!!
PS I saw my golf clubs rusting away in my workshop this morning when I was getting my tools to repair a drinker :)

Pec...if there was a like button for how you got into showing I would press it!!! Great story! Good luck everyone this season. Hope to be joining in with the ugly foal classes as mine would def win ;) But I need to wait till my collarbone has mended from the big mare chucking me off on the road first!

Inspiration indeed Pec, I long to have a go, but as I haven't a clue what to do do worry that I will make a complete ar$e of myself! I think I will start off with seeing how clean I can get the chunky one, if the results are passable I will bung us into a local show and see how we go........ :D

You learn a lot from just doing it to be honest. We just entered and went to or first show too and had a bit of fun. Take it too seriously and it can get very unpleasant so we still go for fun. Usually manage a ribbon but not always c'est la vie

Beautiful, Welsh Cobs always remind me of a film I saw years and years ago now, I can't remember the title but I'll probably have to look it up now. I think Gregory Peck was in the lead role as Justin Morgan, and I know the horse was called Figure, and it was generally believed that there is a lot of Welsh Cob in the Morgan breed. I might even download it (if I can find it), it really was a fabulous film. Certainly beats War Horse, which I thought was pants (sorry). I know I singled you out, but the rest are lovely too :)

Just watched that vid again and it kinda dawned on me what a cack bunch of C's were there. That was a bronze medal show and there were 10-ish in the entire section! The only other one I liked in it was the yearling!
