I'm back after a break following my beloved Brychen being pts in August. I now have a new pony, a Fell that I share with my son (he's 8). She is a sweetie! Any other fell owners/riders on here? I'd be interested in pictures and what you do with yours.
 
I love fells we had some when I was young, our mare looked after the whole family, Mum rode her and all three of us.

Real characters and so good for adults and children, I am sure you will have lots of fun.
 
This is my girl, Rosie, with mydaughter at the Southern Breed Show a couple of years ago.

She's now 16 and has done most things from gymkhana to jumping (nothing too amazing as I'm a wuss!!) but she's best at handy pony & hacking as she's unflappable. I've owned her for 13 years - she's such a grumpy old bag no one else would put up with her!

Thank you! :-) She has 2 white socks so tends to get overlooked in show classes even though it is allowed. ( and I'm rubbish at showing!!). Couldn't ask for better pony though, we met a steam traction engine puffing along one day and she didn't bat an eyelid.

I loved her to bits and had her until she was 28 and retired. She could be a monkey at times, but we always had fun!

We have done a bit of dressage and she is getting around 58% in prelim, but she is only a baby really as she was backed late. Hopefully next year we will improve on the dressage and try a bit of showing too.

I lost my lovely FELL pony Bramble (Rosecott Brown Boy) recently at the age of 36. He was born wild on Shap Fell and brought in and broken at the age of 3. His first home and job was as lead horse at a Lakeland trekking centre.
I bought him at age 12 for my little girls/ me and owned him for 24 years and miss him soooo much. He was very naughty and bargey, but so intelligent. clever and fearless,(dogs beware!). I broke him to harness and his trot could outpace any pony I know - he loved driving trials and at the sight of any hazard flags would just try to dash through even if I was trying to tell him that it was the wrong route. He became my tandem leader -the brains , in front of my Dales the brawn! He also taught my daughters to ride and would be a real sweetie with them, but a "hooligan" with me --great fun. Unfortunately he got bone spavin very early
in life (13) , and I was advised to retire him or have him put down - no chance.
After a 6 mth rest we allowed him to do as much as he felt comfortable with, and he regularly "towed" us around an FEI course at a very fast trot.
I feel I have Lost a true loving friend . who I believe could read my thoughts.
A great character and lovely person!!!!!!!
 
So sorry to read about the loss of your special pony. I hope you have lots of happy memories to look back on and that these help you through this difficult time.

We had a fell mare whose name was Bramble as our first family pony, she was great fun and a super family all round pony.
 
Used to ride my uncle's Fell, 14hh Duke. He is broad as a table, cheeky, grumpy and clever. Loves to work, used to buck with me when I rode bareback but we both found it massively amusing. He'd jump, do a nice outline and was a really fun fizzy ride. I should have bought him but was worried that my legs were just a shade too long, even given his tum. I wish I hadn't cared as he could easily carry me. A true friend, very discerning about who he would tolerate. If I was buying now, I'd want a Fell. Love them.
