Show me your jump positions! ...The good, the bad and the ugly ;)

Tell me what you think is good about your jump position and what you need to work on!

The best bit being the outfit, (although some might disagree :p)

Me :D V. out of practice- first time I'd jumped in about a year, and only the 4th time I'd ridden in that time!

My sister, on her baby pony.

Oh, and in analysis of mine,I think my back should be straighter, my heels further down, my toes further in, and I am not sure whether the slack on the reins is a good thing or not.

But I enjoyed it, and it is one of my most favourite pics of me and my late boy :)

Hmm I'm not sure about mine, sometimes its ok sometimes it just weird. Can't find a very good photo really so just one from this years bucs.

As long as I'm not riding stupidly and aren't freezing up with nerves I tend to be ok...ish hehe
I only ride at lessons and comps though at the moment, so pure practise will do a lot of good!

I've always been one to really sit back out hunting, and as a result on the occasions I do a course of jumps I tend to over compensate by folding forwards a bit too much and being quite restrictive with my hands. Getting slightly better though.

one of the best examples of a jump position was on the channel 4 programme "how to win the Grand National" on channel 4 last friday night. They slowed the jump down (over a show jump) and focused on what the horse was doing, but it was a great way to see how to get to the 'martini glass' shape at the top of a fence, and how to get back from it!

My jumping position is heading for the floor with one foot in a stirrup and the other flapping about wildly :D ...and this is on the worlds smallest jump, if you could even call it a jump...more of a big step for the horse hehe!

But I have only been attempting jumping for two weeks so that's allowed :D

What is this? I've not come across it before.

I'm trying to picture where you'd stick the olive...

Mine is somewhat akin to a Thelwell type cartoon.....about a mile out of the saddle screaming....:o

whatever floats your boat!!

Maxine1985 shows the development of this shape the best on her grey! a strong lower leg balancing her body independently from the horse. her shoulders are a little higher than her hips (avoiding any slumping on the way down and preventing the foetal position), she should be looking up and forwards (her thigh provides the shape of the glass sides).

Although- so long as you are in balance it doesn't really matter what you look like up to approximately the height of a 5-bar gate.... without proper jumping tuition you will just end up throwing your weight forwards and that will cause no end of problems!

From my first jump in 6 months.
My stirrups are a bit long so I'm not coming up out of the saddle. I need to sit up more (lift my shoulders) and give more with my hands. :)

Not the best but probably the only picture i can find without uploading a load more :p Yes, my position is terrible! But i'm expecting her to stop, the cheeky monkey :p

And mid way.

Pay close attention to the stirupps and face. The only part of me touching the tack was my reins, Luckily i held it together on landing (:

This pic cracked me up! soooo funny! I'm sure when I start again Ill be just like this! been a few years for me as I have a 3yr old and a 28yr old :s
