Show me your Jump positions

M and I are quite the least photogenic pair, one I don't hate though back could be straighter and leg a whole lot nicer.

I think my face says it all here, his first xc he tried to bank this fence :o

Hmm I'm not sure about mine, sometimes its ok sometimes it just weird. Can't find a very good photo really so just one from this years bucs.

As long as I'm not riding stupidly and aren't freezing up with nerves I tend to be ok...ish hehe
I only ride at lessons and comps though at the moment, so pure practise will do a lot of good!

I know that yard! Which BUC's team do you ride with? :D

everyone has a fab position so I shan't bother with an aweful picture of my position, I have too many faults to list!

Charlimouse, your photos really made me LOL!

I have a real issue with my position as I always seem to be too far forwards and sticking my head out (in a desperate attempt not to look down I think).

This one might be slightly better? Lower leg is still pretty horrific though!

Both are from 3 years ago so hopefully I have improved! Hoping to get some pics taken at XC training tomorrow :D

On a typical day - observe the horrible lower leg:

I think I'm pretty text book and my horses are lucky to have me :D

Or not  :o

Charlimouse, you need to post the recovery of that jump though. Having seen them a few times, I am always amazed that you managed to stay on and jump another fence soon after!!! Textbook definition of a sticky bum!

For me, lower leg could be a bit more secure and heels down!

Not too bad considering she took off early..

I assume you mean these ones :o!! This fence was 2 strides after the above debacle, and my legs had somehow got stuck over my knee rolls :o:confused::eek:!

Charlimouse are you Andrew Nicholson's illicit love child? Little Miss Stickability?

Super horse to take you over that second fence too.

i can forget to give my hands at times but my horse snatches the reins infront of most jumps so i have to prepare for landing before he charges off!! i also tend to stand in the stirrups a bit too much but its because i tense as i only ride naughty project horses! i also go a bit too flat but its a force of habit that i will break out of after a good seasons hunting:o:o:o:rolleyes:

question for knowledgeable jumping people - i know there is supposed to be an unbroken straight line from bit to hand but i can never get it! In any of the pics of me jumping it's never straight. Like in the pic below, should my hands be lower to keep the straight line? My guy has a massive jump so i always end up in the position in the pic. Should I be lowering my hands to keep the straight line?!

With Ziggy it either goes right

or really really wrong!

(He thought bouncing a one stride double might be fun :) )

I've always been one to really sit back out hunting, and as a result on the occasions I do a course of jumps I tend to over compensate by folding forwards a bit too much and being quite restrictive with my hands. Getting slightly better though.

Wow. He was thinking puissance jumping over that wall. Looks fabulous.

I'm a traditionalist, so I would say yes, you need to lower your hands in order to maintain unbroken contact with the horses mouth, BUT the alternative school of thought uses so called ''crest release'', which basically means that your hands follow the top line of the horse's neck - the straight line from elbow to bit gets broken in that case and it is considered correct.

Not too bad - apart from the gathering of the knitting, and my left foot always seems to poke out like a bellerina!?

Lower leg needs to be tied to something!

290385_10150351755407546_527842545_8295743_1928399201_o.jpg

Clear example of that rogue left foot - oh and a bit wonky! :D

TauntonValeTC.jpg

When flying through the air though, my lower leg is rock solid! Typical ;)

273113_10150241273162546_527842545_7478156_6803306_o.jpg

And a show jump for comparison - arms/hands could to with being a bit softer!!

Overall, some room for improvement but as long as we have fun .....:)

Probably lower my hands a bit, actually don't really hold them like that but for some reason I did here :D

Used to have a rubbish lower leg and would throw myself forward, but this boy has taught me to sit up! :p
