I have a dappled grey gelding connemera and I'm wanting a nice name to use at shows. His passport name is 'Ballinafad Tommie' but it doesn't have any wow (Ballinafad is also a town in Ireland). there's no unique markings really, other than the dapples, so I'm a little stuck.. I would attach some pictures also, but I don't know how to

Other than local unaffiliated shows you will have to go with the passport name I'm afraid. Any qualifier, any PC/RC event and anything affiliated will go from the passport name. If you were ever subject to a passport check how would you prove the animal you have is the one who entered / qualified / collected points.

But actually I quite like the name too - I've had far worse!

Hi,
I've had Moonlight Shadow,Flower girl,shadow fax,offset,wash&Go and Flash Dance!
Good Luck, but as another poster has said, changing names can be complicated...

If he's registered you definitely need to stick with the passport name. On the Connemara circuit - very much as I imagine with other breeds - people know the horses by their prefixes and lineage therefore it would be important to keep the name, also a bit disrespectful to the breeder to change it as presumably that is their stud prefix!

The name will get the wow factor if you do well.

I'm not doing any big shows so it doesn't matter really, I used the name 'jigsaw blue' for my piebald with a wall eye and there was no problems at all with that. I'm not doing eventing or bsja, just wanting a nice name to call out at local clear round shows instead of just Tommie.

he's also not a posh type at all, he's from the sales and all I know about his background history is just abuse he's not from s big stud company, I just wanted a cute name to call out, like the majority of people I know do.

He's a Connemara, he's not meant to be posh type :p

Just because he is from the sales doesn't mean he was "abused" - a lot of horses are sold through sales in Ireland. It's normal, especially for breeders.

I like his name, I think it has a nice ring to it, you can always call him Tommy as his stable name.

I think it's a lovely name for a connie! It shows his Irish roots. We had a little mare called "Woodstock Cullen Bui"(I may have forgotten the actual spelling!) actually we called her Kizzy at home but when she competed we always used her proper name.

When I've not liked a horses passport name I've paid to have it changed BUT if it had a breeders stud name I would leave it out of respect for the breeder.
Could you change passport name?? Maybe find out more about where he came from first??
What about about Rock On Tommy :)

hi thankyou I'm loving some of these haha! and I know my horses past well enough to know that he has had abuse, but thanks anyway. I'm not changing his name at all, like I said I just want to have a cute/funny name to call out at shows. I've changed names previously and it's totally up to me, I have ownership and he's my horse to decide what I call him

I'm not doing any big shows!!! just the odd clear round, I don't want to compete him, I just hack and school but when I do pop out just to do a clear round I'm just going to have a cute/funny name that's all, no harm done to anyone and his name has nothing to do with the stud as stated previously, it is just a town in Ireland
