It is extremely long and may not be allowed by the passport agency or for affiliated registration, I think tb's are limited to 18 characters which it plenty in my view, try and shorten it in some way.

I have just seen he is a CB in which case you must use his registered name as his show name.

Personally I think it is too long
As he is 3 doesn't he have a passport already? In which case you would use the name on the passport

His name in his passport is Finch which is what his stable name is. just wondered if their show name could be different or it had to be on the passport.

Yes he does have a passport. His name is Finch and just wondered whether you could use a name that wasnt registered on the passport.

I am surprised a registered CB does not have a "proper" name with a prefix, if he were mine I would probably see if I could add a suffix to Finch to make it more interesting and unique, Finch of ***** using a place or house name for example, you would need to check with the breed society to see what they allow, otherwise you really should use his registered name although I do have sympathy when breeders take so little care when naming their youngstock they don't really encourage owners to use the name they were given.

You must use the name in the passport - especially if he is a full registered CB which are so rare anyway! But Be positive is quite right about such a lack of imagination in passporting a rare breed. Check with the breed society - but in essence stick to his passport name. Finch is really nice - I've ha a lot worse!

thank you for your help :)
it is very annoying! however he does have a bit of ish in him but the person who bread him cant even remember the name of the sire who was a CB :( (the guy is a very traditional choose a stallion and stick it in a field with a few mares kind of guy) but i do know the sire was absolutely stunning!
